Williamsville Central School is Hiring a 1.0 Probationary School Counselor - Country Parkway/Maple West Elementary Near East Amherst, NY

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid New York State Certification as School Counselor
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide direct Social Emotional Learning instruction to all classrooms grades K-4 on a consistent basis as delineated in the WCSD Comprehensive Counseling Plan.
  • Facilitate scheduling of contracted mental health and wellness providers (in collaboration with the building principal)
  • Provide written communication to families/community members on the topics of mental health/wellness/social emotional learning as directed by the building principal.
  • Consult with students, parents, teachers, administrators, and members of both the school and the student services team to define and implement appropriate instruction given students' strengths, aptitudes, interests and long-term career goals.
  • Works closely with colleagues in the planning and program development for all students.
  • Initiate and plan in-service programs for staff, families and community members as it relates to Social Emotional Learning.
  • Provide counseling and crisis intervention for individuals and small groups as the need arises within the classroom setting.
  • Communicate clearly and succinctly in both oral and written form, supervise the appropriate use and confidentiality of student records, and maintain reports of contacts with students, parents, and school social workers/psychologists as related to specific students.
  • Serve on established committees; such as: the school Wellness Committee and attend meetings as required including beyond the normal professional workday.
  • Work with families in conjunction with school social worker and/or psychologist to facilitate understanding, promote constructive participation in resolving difficulties their child(ren) may be experiencing, and increase awareness of the availability of appropriate resources, make referrals to community agencies, services and programs for additional services when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate a willingness/ability to contribute to the school community through participation in school-wide events.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the Building Administration and/or Office of Student Services.

  • Intervention and direct teaching experience
  • Prior elementary school counseling experience - 2-3 years preferred
  • Creative and willing to assert himself or herself when working with staff in developing programs
  • Strong knowledge and experience of working with students with disabilities under IDEA and 504 regulations
