Williamsburg Landing is Hiring an Activities Assistant (Part Time) Near Williamsburg, VA

Description

Williamsburg Landing, the area’s only CARF-accredited Life Plan Community, seeks a Part-Time Activities Assistant who will work under the direction and guidance of the Activities Manager.

The Activities Assistant provides and conducts activities based on the individual psychosocial needs of the residents in Independent Living, the Health and Rehabilitation Center, Assisted Living, and Memory Support Neighborhoods. Working under the direction of the Activities Manager, this position will refer questions about procedure or authority for action for approval. All work is performed collaboratively with and in support of other services offered by Williamsburg Landing.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

  • Assists Activities Manager with setup, implementation, and breakdown of Independent Living programs and events
  • Implements individual and small group activities programs in licensed areas; covers other areas of care as scheduled
  • Implements individual, in-room activities and socialization for residents who are unable to leave their rooms or choose to stay in their rooms in Assisted Living, Memory Support, and the Health & Rehabilitation Center 
  • Assists Activities Manager in office work, including creation of events, uploading events to digital marketing platform, listening to and returning reservation voicemails, other office duties as assigned
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as scheduled; including weekend rotation in licensed areas
  • Documents residents’ activity and residents’ response to individual and small group experiences as needed
  • Assists and encourages group outings as assigned
  • Assists residents to and from scheduled activities; assists the resident in using assistive mobility devices safely
  • Works cooperatively with the Activities staff to maintain adequate materials to implement planned individual, in-room, and small group activities
  • Ensures all residents are safe during any activity; takes all appropriate action to have a safe activity space, safely designed activities, and safe interactions; renders immediate emergency response if needed
  • Maintains vigilance to observe any unusual symptoms or signs of illness and reports same to nurse in charge; reports any indication of residents’ deteriorating physical, emotional, or mental health by noting such cues as uneaten food, deteriorating cleanliness, or conversations that indicate deep unhappiness or loneliness
  • Attends and/or communicates necessary information to assist the Activities Manager with family meetings or the interdisciplinary team conferences on a regular basis
  • Performs other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

  • One or more (1 ) years of work experience in social/recreational programs, required
  • Experience with residents with all levels of dementia in an assisted living and long term care environment, preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field, preferred; High school diploma or GED, required 
  • Activity Professional Certified (APC) credential, preferred 
  • Activity Director Certified (ADC) or Certified Therapeutic Recreational Specialist credential, preferred 
  • Valid Commonwealth of Virginia Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a Passenger Vehicle endorsement, desired

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Suite, required;
  • General knowledge of the psycho-social needs of adults in various stages of dementia and knowledge of area resources and cultural activities
  • Ability to work with and assist in developing programs for residents in varying stages of dementia and illness 
  • Ability to tailor activities to individual needs and to demonstrate a genuine interest in the welfare and quality of life of all residents
  • Ability to work individually or as a team to follow through on projects and assignments delegated by the Activities Manager
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and respond appropriately in the event of an emergency
  • Ability to physically assist residents with activities provided
  • Ability to safely lift and carry a maximum of 50 pounds
