The Desktop Support Technician performs various technical work related to the maintenance of Williams County desktops, notebooks, and telephone equipment.
Examples of DutiesThe intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities performed by incumbents in this position. The duties and responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list and may change with or without notice. Incumbents must be able to perform the essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Installs, assembles, configures, and maintains computers, monitors, and peripherals, including printers, scanners, and related hardware
  • Pulls cables and rewires cabling as required for new installations and office reconfigurations
  • Provides technical support and troubleshooting assistance for networked computer systems, including hardware, software, and email
  • Investigates and resolves network and peripheral equipment problems; performs related repairs as required
  • Performs preventative maintenance necessary to keep County computers and systems free of viruses, spyware, and adware
  • Responds to technical service requests in a timely and prompt manner; accurately documents technical service call information into ticketing or knowledge base system(s)
  • Monitors and assists with ensuring the availability, connectivity, and security of assigned technology-related equipment
  • Schedules and provides training to technology end users as requested
  • Coordinates and collaborates with Information Technology Department staff to research and implement the use of new technologies
  • Provides on-call technical support as scheduled and required
  • Maintains confidentiality of non-public records and makes available all data and information deemed a public record by the North Dakota Century Code.
Typical Qualifications
  • Associate Degree in Information Technology or Computer Science OR High School Diploma or GED AND two (2) years of information technology experience
  • A , CNE, and Microsoft Desktop Support Technician certifications preferred
  • Must possess a valid North Dakota Driver’s License or equivalent
  • Must pass a background check and pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
Supplemental InformationSpecial Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Must be able to provide on-call and emergency technical support outside of regular work hours
Compensation and Benefits: Starting pay for this position begins at $26.62 and may vary based on qualifications and experience. Williams County provides generous benefits to full-time regular employees: paid sick and vacation leave, a fully paid health/dental/vision benefit plan for employees and dependents, term life insurance of $25,000, 100% contribution toward retirement benefits through the ND Public Employees Retirement System, and 12 paid holidays each year.
