Willamette Writers is hiring for a Marketing and Communications Manager. Join our team and support a community of writers across the Pacific Northwest.

This person will:

• Create marketing campaigns for Willamette Writers events and fundraising, sparking engagement among current members and donors and igniting interest from new audiences;
• Develop written and visual storytelling for social media channels, newsletters, website, printed material, press releases, fundraisers and other opportunities;
• Review upcoming programming to manage an outreach calendar for social media and traditional media;
• Ensure that both the messages and the means of communication foster engagement for all, including underrepresented groups. The work must uphold Willamette Writers fundamental goals of being a safe space for all writers, viewed through a lens of diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility.

Compensation: Salary $50,000-53,000

Location: Position is hybrid: both remote and in-office in Portland three days a week

Status: Full time, 40 hours/week. Flexible hours; some event attendance on nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

Internal Initiatives:

• Managing website and social media team
• Curating a weekly email newsletter
• Managing internal communications via BaseCamp and supporting Google Workspace and Discord
• Managing events calendar
• Managing donor databases
• Managing volunteer mapping and organization charts
• Other duties as assigned

External Initiatives:

• Identifying opportunities for increased community engagement, including: community partnerships, press outreach, advertising campaigns and social media strategy.
• Managing style guide, including brand assets and collateral.
• Identifying opportunities for increased donor engagement via prospect research and engagement with existing membership and donor base.

Desired Traits

• Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, literature, or related field
• 3 years professional background in communications, marketing, social media, and/or public relations.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including relationship-building with members and volunteers throughout the organization.
• Familiarity with WordPress, MailChimp.
• Excellent grammar, spelling, and attention to detail in digital and print formats
