Wight & Company, an award-winning Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management firm located in Darien, IL, seeks an energetic Preconstruction Manager to join our team!
The Preconstruction Manager is a significant role in Wight's design-led design build delivery model and key to providing fully integrated services. The preconstruction Manager will work collaboratively with the Director of Integrated Services, Estimators, and Design and Construction Project Managers. Supporting preconstruction services on projects and pursuits the Preconstruction Manager's expertise will impact all departments and markets.
Responsibilities:
  • Work with the Director of Integrated Services, Director of Construction operations, and Project Executives on project pursuits.
  • Participate in the development and champion the early established project vision and goals throughout the process and project.
  • Prepare and review preliminary construction schedules, logistics and phasing planning.
  • Review design documents for constructability and value engineering opportunities
  • Solicit input from subcontractors to provide budgetary information for estimates. Review for completeness and accuracy.
  • Work directly with the estimating department on the development of project estimates.
  • Maintain master subcontractor/vendor lists by trade.
  • Develop project scope of work documents for each trade.
  • Review scopes with subcontractors and participate in subcontractor selection process.
  • Develop General Conditions for review with management.
  • Stay current with the various design and construction tools, working with project teams and IT to evaluate the company's technology platforms.
  • Assist in negotiation of contracts, change orders, etc.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to newer staff in the development of their careers.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture or Engineering.
  • 8 years of applicable estimating, design management and/or field management experience.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction principles/practices required.
  • Experience managing preconstruction on relevant projects.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build trust and influence across all disciplines.
  • Experience with estimating, bidding work, developing work scopes, constructability, and project scheduling while maintaining a "value add" mindset.
  • Self-starter, highly motivated
