Additional Information : SALARY Commensurate with certification and experience based on the Wicomico County Salary Scale for Teachers.

HOURS Full time 10-month position (190 Contract Days) Contract Unit : This position is part of the Unit 1 (Certificated) bargaining unit.

FLSA : exempt QUALIFICATIONS Eligibility for the Maryland State Department of Education teaching certificate in Special Education.

Demonstration of strong leadership, communication, and human relations skills. Demonstration of ability to work collaboratively with district and school leadership, families, instructional staff, and community members.

Knowledge of federal, state and local special education policies, procedures and regulations as well as Section 504 ADA policies and procedures.

Five years or more of successful special education teaching experience preferred. Excellent problem-solving skills, mediation skills and organizational skills in order to prioritize responsibilities with flexibility.

Demonstration of outstanding oral and written communication skills. Possession of technology competency (e.g. database, internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications);

skill and experience in data analysis and application. RESPONSIBILITIES Organize and manage the IEP process, ensuring adherence to Federal, State, and Local regulations and procedures.

Facilitate IEP team meetings, promoting the active engagement of all members, and ensuring that all required IEP documents are completed and disbursed within timelines.

Monitor the communication of all required paperwork timelines, meeting schedules, and documentation to parents and school staff meeting all federal and state timelines.

Provide technical assistance and professional development to staff and parents as appropriate on the IEP process and WCPS procedures.

Review and provide feedback to teachers or related service providers on IEP paperwork including but not limited to IEPs (Individualized Education Programs), assessment reports, review of existing data, etc.

to proactively address any potential compliance errors. Promote family engagement with a repertoire of ideas for teachers as they connect parents to classroom learning and alternative strategies used to support the varied needs of children.

Facilitate collaboration with required IEP team members (including general educators, related service providers, special educators, school administrators, district administrators, and parents) to develop appropriate IEPs.

Review individual student records for completion and accuracy prior to an IEP meeting and at the end of the school year.

Advise Principal and Supervisor of Special Education Compliance when issues of non-compliance are encountered. Attend countywide IEP team chair / facilitator training and other professional development as required by the Department of Special Education.

Conduct formal and informal assessments as required. Collaborate with school and Department of Special Education central office staff to meet the needs of students with disabilities and their families.

Assist the Department of Special Education central office staff with other compliance related tasks as directed (e.g. dispute resolution, assessments, monitoring / audits, professional development, etc.

When requested by the building Principal and / or Department of Special Education, plan and deliver professional development to school-based department and faculty meetings.

Participate in school-based SST and ILT meetings. Review records and complete specific file reviews to ensure compliance with IDEA and Section 504 procedures and practices.

Collect data on processes and timelines to report to the assigned building principal, and / or Department of Special Education.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Supervisors and / or Director of Special Education.
