Whole Woman Health is Hiring a Nurse Practitioner Near Charlottesville, VA

Whole Woman’s Health Alliance (WWHA) is a 501(c)3 organization that intentionally seeks to open clinics in areas of the country which are most impacted by anti-abortion legislation. Whole Woman’s Health Alliance provides abortion care that puts patients first. We stand in the light to revolutionize the conversation around abortion in this country.

Independent abortion providers like Whole Woman's Health Alliance provide over 60% of abortions in the United States and intentionally operate in areas of the country that have the most onerous regulations. We do this because we believe safe, affordable, quality abortion care should be accessible to all, regardless of their zip code.

Whole Woman’s Health Alliance works in a coordinated strategy with the Stigma Relied Fund and Whole Woman’s Health. For more information, please visit www.shiftstigma.organd www.wholewomanshealth.com.

Summary

The Nurse Practitioner works directly with the physicians and other staff to deliver comprehensive gynecological care, according to our philosophy, for the patients at Whole Woman’s Health. The practitioner practices in a safe and proficient manner, keeping our policies and procedures and the individual patient’s needs in mind at all times. The practitioner provides direct and indirect patient-centered care to women and their support people under the guidance of the supervising physician, in close cooperation with staff, nurses, and the Clinic management team.

The practitioner is responsible for treating patients within his or her scope of practice, as outlined in the Whole Woman’s Health protocol book and directed by the Medical Director at our facility. The ideal candidate is responsible for maintaining license/certification renewals, CPR every two years, and continuing education credits.

The practitioner should be a dependable asset to the practice demonstrating an exemplary role in the aspects of punctuality, attendance, accountability, initiative, positive attitude, and team support.

Clinical Services- Gynecological Care:

  • Provide health screening such as pap smears, pelvic exams, breast checks, STI screening.
  • Counsel patients regarding birth control options and provide birth control including diaphragms and IUDs. Follow up as appropriate.
  • Dispensing Mifepristone or Misoprostol under MD orders as per the Whole Woman'sHealth medical abortion protocol.
  • Counsel, educate, and provide resources on women’s health issues.
  • Provide treatment for gynecological problems such as infection, abnormal bleeding, or abnormal pap results.
  • Identify non-gynecological medical problems and provide management or referral.
  • Review and triage patient labs, in accordance with physician orders and protocols. Liaison with other health care providers concerning client management and referral.
  • Return calls from established patients encountering problems or questions.
  • Chart all findings accurately and clearly.
  • Basic skills: manual blood pressure, temperature, pulse, finger stick, venipuncture, height, weight, injection, IVs, microscopy.

Clinical Services- Abortion Care:

Mid-level practitioners are invited to support the practice of abortion care in as many ways as they see possible. While traditionally our practitioners primarily provide non-surgical gynecology care (and are not directly involved in abortion care), it is very important that every employee in our practice be pro-choice and fully empathetic to the women and families who receive abortion care at our facility. Providers with conflicts about abortion will not be good candidates to provide gynecology care at Whole Woman’s Health.

Optional duties for practitioners wishing to participate directly in abortion care:

  • Ultrasound, surgical set up or assistant, aftercare (recovery room) during surgical abortion
  • Potential for laminaria insertion or provision of Mifepristone under physician delegation and supervision.
  • Perform follow up visits for patients experiencing post-abortion problems.

  • Provide training and education to staff and nurses, as appropriate.
  • Work with the Quality Assurance team to initiate improvements in protocols, educational materials, internal forms/paperwork, and patient care.
    • Coordinating travel arrangements
    • Planning/scheduling conference calls and meetings
    • Creating and maintaining files and records for historical and informational reference
