Thesefunctions fall within the following categories:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:? Must be a Licensed Practical Nurse? Successful completion of state-required Child Maltreatment and background examinationsESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)Clinician: The Licensed Practical Nurse is a skilled clinician providing daily nursing care and casemanagement during school hours. Assessing, making effective nursing diagnoses, choosing appropriateinterventions, and identifying outcomes are essential skills all school nurses must possess.? Assess health needs? Responsible for administration of first aid, emergency and preventative care (medication) tochildren in grades pre-k-12. He/She will also coordinate medical care if needed to the districtchildcare program.? Work with RN, staff, and families to develop individual health plans? Assist the RN monitor students/staff with chronic illnesses? The school nurse will research, write and update letters to be sent home to parents regardingcommunicable conditions.? Assist with all mandated health screenings at the request of the RN? Maintain accurate, detailed reports and records? Maintain confidentiality? Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by school administration.Collaborator: School nurses help families navigate complex medical systems and identify resources forhealthcare services, financial resources, shelter, food, and health promotion.? Participate in community events that benefit research or support for chronic illnesses that affectour students (Cystic Fibrosis Walk, Juvenile Diabetes Walk, Epilepsy Awareness, etc.)? Assist families in applying for government programs that may benefit them? Assist families in applying for vision exams and glasses through the Brandon BurlsworthFoundation and Eyes of a Champion program.? Work closely with school counselors and social worker to promote student safety and health? Provide updated information on school immunization requirements to parents and staff? Assist the RN with monitoring student immunization recordsHealth Educator: The school nurse collaborates with administrators and teachers in providing healtheducation opportunities and experiences for school age children, families, school personnel and thecommunity that will lead to health behavior change. The LPN will assist the RN with any educationnecessary to faculty, staff, or students.Liaison: As the health liaison to the community, the school nurse is a translator of educational andmedical goals and a coordinator between the school and community partners. It is necessary for theschool nurse to possess the ability to communicate effectively with practitioners from education andhealthcare. The LPN will assist the RN with any communication, clinics or partnerships as seen fit by theRN or the school administration.
