POSITION SUMMARYThe Licensed Psychologist works as a member of a skilled, dynamic, and fun interdisciplinary team that is passionate about using evaluations as a tool to identify and meet the cognitive, social, behavioral, and emotional needs of clients/students ages 3-21. The Licensed Psychologist will provide strength-based, psychological assessment, child and family assessment, and classroom observations to children, adolescents, and young adults involved in Wheeler’s school and evaluation programs. In addition, the Licensed Psychologist may provide clinical supervision to psychology externs/practicum students, consult to school staff, give feedback to parents/guardians, and present at Planning and Placement Team meetings. Demonstrates sound judgment and decision-making by maintaining the ability to plan, organize, disseminate information, and analyze and resolve problems. Must have solid psychological evaluation experience as well as strong written and verbal communication. LOCATIONPlainville, CTSCHEDULE Fee For Service ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESEfficiently conducts psychological evaluations, classroom observations, child and family assessments, performs mental status exams, accurately diagnoses, develops and presents clear clinical formulations with specific, attainable behaviorally oriented recommendations appropriate to specified problems.Works collaboratively with the program staff to ensure that evaluation reports are useful to the child/youth, family and referral source, and that the child's/youth's and family's dignity is maintained throughout the evaluation process.Interacts with youth and their families in a manner that is trauma-sensitive and relationally-based. Ensures that the process is strengths-based for the youth and family and that their voice is included in the recommendations.Demonstrates knowledge of child development, DSM-V diagnoses, psychopathology, trauma-informed and relationally based treatment, and evidence based treatment modalities and translates this knowledge into clinical and classroom-based psycho-educational interventions as well as individual, group, and family therapy and crisis interventions designed to promote positive social and emotional development, increase healthy and effective coping skills, improve overall functioning, and increase student self understanding.Demonstrates knowledge of psychotropic medications, psychopathology, and primary modalities of evidence-based psychotherapy including individual, group, and family. Has knowledge of and ability to correctly implement response to clinical emergencies including, but not limited to harm to self and others. Provides classroom based consultation as part of a interdisciplinary team to address child specific and milieu based treatment, support implementation of a trauma informed relational practices and positive behavioral support, and to address staff concerns.Conducts psychological assessments, completes comprehensive integrated reports including educationally and/or clinically related recommendations, and effectively reports results in writing and verbally to parents, classroom staff, Pupil Placement Meeting (PPT) participants, as well as other in other venues.Ensures that evaluation reports thoroughly address referral questions, are well-written, clearly articulate assessment findings, strengths-based, integrated, balanced, free of jargon, timely, and meet quality standards, as well as provide recommendations that are clearly stated, consistent with report findings, and focus on interventions that are evidence-based and least restrictive.Communicates in a positive, effective manner with all internal and external educational, clinical and administrative service providers, parents and guardians, and seeks consultation from others when appropriate.Identifies potential risk factors and taking measures to reduce those risks through reinforcement of positive and safe behaviors, trauma-informed and relationally-based interventions, and reporting of suspected child abuse/neglect, according to agency policies and procedures.Trains and participates in emergency safety interventions authorized and approved by the agency, when a student presents with an imminent safety concern.Documents all client related information in a timely manner and in compliance with Medicaid, licensing, and other standards.Meets direct service productivity goals as defined by program. Demonstrates knowledge of program/department/agency goals and target outcomes, and adheres to practice standards and to data collection and reporting protocols.Utilizes internal and external levels of care and criteria for referral to various points in the continuum of care. Make timely referrals for specialized evaluations, programs, and services (e.g., medical, psychiatric, psychological, social services) in accordance with levels of care requirements. Demonstrates working knowledge of available mental health and substance abuse services and facilities.Adheres to all agency and department policies and procedures (e.g., confidentiality, reports child abuse, safety & infection control) and displays excellent work habits (e.g., provides excellent service, attendance and promptness at work and meetings, timeliness in completing work).Provides clinical supervision, training, additional assistance in crisis situations, and may provide leadership for identified program elements, as well as assumes additional responsibilities within the program.Provides clinical supervision to psychology interns/externs/practicum students in field placement at Wheeler’s Northwest Village School.Continues to develop knowledge and understanding about the history, traditions, values, family systems, and artistic expression of groups served as well as uses appropriate methodological approaches, skills, and techniques that reflect an understanding of culture.
