Busy medical practice is seeking a Registered Information Health Technician. Responsibilities include processing physician referrals, submitting pre-authorizations and scheduling patient appointments for treatment.

Education, Training, Experience and Other Requirements

• Requires a minimum of one (1) years’ experience in a related position. Certification in Medical Records. 
• Knowledge of medical terminology and basic computer functions.
• Ability to organize, capable of remaining calm and polite under pressure situations.
• Interpersonal skills and the ability to conduct business with clients of all social and economic backgrounds are required.
• Capable of being bonded.
• Organizational skills are required.
• Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Responsible for the retrieval and electronic filing of incoming documents received through the fax server.
• Responsible for scanning and electronic filing of medical records (i.e., progress notes, labs, hospital records, etc.) in electronic health record system. 
• Respond to requests for medical records, processing letters, subpoenas, and other requests according to the appropriate laws and regulations. 
• Process referrals according to established procedures. 
• Perform pre-certifications for all referrals. 
• Responsible for preparing documents for retrieval by contracted firm to release medical records. Keep all medical records protected and confidential. 
• Be able to communicate effectively with patients, staff and medical professionals.
