ABOUT THE ROLE
As our Associate Producer, National Affairs PBS NewsHour’s you will be responsible for assisting with studio and field production, setting up stories, and assisting the beat with other requests as necessary.
YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS
You are regularly contributing to both breaking and longer-form, in-depth news reporting. You bring a vibrancy and terrific ideas to pitch meetings. You are producing excellent interviews, developing story ideas for the short and long-term, talking to sources and executing efficiently on tight deadlines. You get kudos from not only your immediate team, but from others throughout the organization. You’ve developed trust with executive leadership, and have grown your own skills and can point to evidence in your improved reporting.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
You’re able to find good guests who are knowledgeable with a compelling presence on air. You are able to work with professional editors to locate video assets that help convey the story, finding good interviews, identifying video elements for tape packages and produced interviews. You are working with on-air correspondents on the research and reporting they need, collaborating well with the National Affairs Team and other units at the program. You're developing beats that you follow and getting word of stories that need to be covered.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in journalism, preferably for a national outlet.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Some experience using nonlinear editing software including Premier, AVID, or Final Cut.
Proof of full dosage of a COVID-19 vaccination is required for all positions that will be working onsite, or may reasonably or occasionally be called to work onsite.
