Description

Summary:

Implements all water safety policies and procedures; supervises member and guests in and around the swimming pool.

Essential Job Functions:

Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Vacuums pool bottom; empties automatic skimmer; skims bugs and other debris from surface to prepare pool for daily use.

2. Administers to minor injuries such as small cuts and bruises of swimmers.

3. Maintains amenities in and cleanliness of changing rooms, bathrooms and showers.

4. Enforces rules of conduct.

5. Checks first aid supplies and reports needed items.

6. Organizes and monitors pool games at all times; suggests pool side games.

7. Places rescue tube and ring buoy on the lifeguard chair in the morning and at the end of the day; returns these and all swimming aids and pool toys to the lifeguard area.

8. Observes daily sanitation requirements of checking water conditions for chlorine and PH (acidity) content, and any other necessary chemical testing. Administers chemicals as instructed by Aquatics Director, Assistant pool Director or Head lifeguard.

9. Maintains daily logs of water test conditions for the inspection of local health agency.

10. Supervises and observes swimmers in Club pools to assure their safety, and maintaining all Club pool rules as established by management.

11. In event of equipment breakdown of malfunction, or fecal contamination, will close pool.

12. Properly maintain the pool facility in the areas of safe water, clean tiles, vacuumed pool, clean decks, clean office facility, clean grounds with garbage picked up and disposed and any other necessary duties to effectively maintain the pool facility.

13. Report to the assigned stations in the pool facility “on time” and to maintain a professional manner when “on duty”.

14. Carefully watch the pool in order to be aware of the safety of all the bathers in and out of the water.

15. Be available to do those tasks which may be necessary for the proper operation of the pool and in doing such tasks, maintain a true professionalism.

16. Clean the pool area and the bathroom facilities, pump room facilities, Day Camp area, Snack Bar area and pool parking area.

17. Become fully aware of the policies of the pool and to see that these policies are carried out properly.

18. Provide such duties as clerical help to the Pool Director when necessary.

19. Learn the mechanical operation of the pool facility in order to properly maintain the entire operation (Ex. Pump room and Chlorination). This will include the Baby pool area as well.

20. Be available for duties that are necessary for the efficient operation of the pool and to do those tasks that may be necessary or required to effectively operate the facility no matter what those tasks may be.

21. Maintain a continuous supply of clean towels for the membership during hours of operation. Wash and dry towels in the laundry areas designated for such duties. Fold and assist the receptionist in seeing that clean towels are constantly available for the membership during pool hours.

22. During “free patrol” time inspect and clean the bathroom facilities in all pool areas and when necessary, assist in the cleaning of these facilities. (Recording on the daily bathroom log sheets, the time and duties performed inside the bathroom facilities.

Generally Applicable Competencies

1. Assists in organizing clinics and private swimming lessons for members as directed by the Swimming Pool Director or Assistant Pool Director.

2. Attends all meetings as directed by the Swimming Pool Director/Assistant Pool Director.

3. Alerts Pool management of any safety concerns at facility.

4. Cooperate fully with the Pool Director, Assistant Pool Director and Head Lifeguard to ensure the health, safety and cleanliness of the Pool facility.

5. Cooperate with the Members in securing the safety of their children and guests.

6. See that all members and their guests are properly registered upon entering the pool.

7. Test the pool water upon the request of the Pool Director, Assistant Pool Director or Head Lifeguard and to follow the suggested daily schedule of pool testing as noted in the pool office.

Functional Competencies

1. Maintain necessary attendance records, guest records and Pro Shop records that may be needed for daily operation.

2. Complete the daily pool report as noted in the staff handbook and to effectively see that the report is properly presented to the Pool Director/Assistant Pool Director/Head lifeguard, upon completion of the day.

Knowledge and Skill Set Requirements

1. Must have passed official American Red Cross, CPR, AED, First Aid, and Lifesaving courses and may be expected to have passed certain local first aid and swimming requirements.

2. Must be an excellent swimmer with ample amount of physical strength.

3. Must have working knowledge of AED equipment and other life saving apparatus introduced in lifesaving courses.

5. Leadership skills.

6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Minimum Education/Prior Experience/ Qualifications Required

(Lifeguard Training certificate, current, to include)

1. CPR – Adult/Child – Red Cross or AHA

2. AED – Adult/Child – Red Cross or AHA

3. First Aid – Red Cross or AHA

4. Bloodborne Pathogens – Red Cross or AHA

5. Successful completion of criminal offender record information and sexual offender registry information checks.

Physical Requirements

1. Ability to swim 500 yards or 30 minutes continuously.

2. Ability to swim 25 yards underwater (two breaths permitted)

3. Ability to stand for extended amounts of time, up to 3 hours.

4. Ability to lift 40 pounds comfortably.

Standard Club Requirements: Employees are expected to present a clean and neat appearance while on the job. Uniforms are to be kept clean and pressed. Personal cleanliness is expected, including wearing deodorant, bathing and oral hygiene. Excessive make-up and jewelry is not permitted. Employees are expected to arrive to work on time and leave personal belongings at home or in a locker. Employees should conduct themselves in a professional and courteous manner when dealing with members, management and other staff.

Work Hours: Full and Part time employees must work all scheduled shifts. We have a short three month season at the Westmoor Club and need every employee to be here 100% of the time that they were hired for. Requested days off will try to be honored by management but never guaranteed. If there is a scheduling need within the club, that takes priority. This includes Holiday’s, Mornings, Afternoons, Nights and Weekends. If an employee is sick they are expected to get their shift covered and speak directly to a manager for approval. All employee shift changes must be put in writing on a (shift change request form) and approved by a manager. We do understand that people get sick and things come up so please be flexible and helpful to other employees that may need a shift covered.
