Westlake Eye Specialists is Hiring an Ophthalmology Surgical Manager Near Austin, TX

SUMMARY
Th Surgical Manager will be responsible for appropriately supervising our surgical suite to ensure the highest quality patient care possible. The Surgical Manager ensures maximum staff productivity, management of materials/supplies, and other tasks assigned by leadership. The Surgical Manager will report directly to CEO and Director of Operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Bachelor Degree or Associate Degree in a related field highly preferred
  • Three years of ophthalmology experience required
  • One year of management experience preferred
  • Cataract/LASIK surgery experience preferred

  • Must have exceptional interpersonal business-like skills
  • Must possess a caring, patient and friendly attitude
  • Must have an understanding of the use of all technical equipment within the clinic
  • Must have complete knowledge of basic documentation requirements for the practice
  • Must have a working knowledge of all ophthalmic terminology which includes spelling and pronunciation
  • Must be familiar with all forms associated with the patient’s medical record (paper & electronic)
  • Must have a working knowledge of basic sterile technique

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Performance Management

  • Provides management, leadership and supervision of the clinical staff to ensure efficiency in daily operations as defined by the CEO and Director of Operations
  • Maintains physician and staff daily work schedules for clinical personnel
  • Review and update job descriptions and performance appraisal materials on a continuing basis
  • Assigns duties and monitors quality of work; assures staff conforms to organizational policies and procedures and government regulations
  • In conjunction with other members of the management team, perform employee evaluations according to predetermined schedules
  • Provides proper supervision of personnel on a daily basis
  • Ensures all clinical personnel records are up-to-date and in compliance with federal and state laws
  • Encourage and reward outstanding performance. When an employee performs poorly, take corrective action, including coaching, counseling, encouraging improvement and setting goals and timetables. Also, in conjunction with Human Resources, issue verbal and written warnings to employees who fail to improve and meet job description requirements

Recruiting and Placement

  • Review staffing requirements and recommend expansion of staff or downsizing of jobs as necessary
  • Participate in interviewing and selecting personnel

Employee Relations

  • Initiate/maintain/enhance a positive atmosphere of cooperation among the staff
  • Resolve day-to-day employee issues
  • Enforce and periodically review the Employee Policy and Procedures Manual for updates and changes in practice policies and procedures
  • Conduct employee staff meetings to enhance communication

Staff Training and Development

  • Participates in the development and administration of comprehensive training programs to enhance growth of the clinical staff b. Identifies and meets cross-training needs at all times

Professional and Personal Development/Goals and Objectives

  • Exhibits professional demeanor with a positive enthusiastic attitude at all times while representing the practice
  • Establishes and maintains rapport with payer representatives
  • Maintains current knowledge of healthcare issues, clinical updates, administrative, financial, legal, and managed care
  • Maintains certification, where applicable, and continues to improve skills
  • Sets goals and objectives for professional growth. Reviews and revises goals and objectives on an ongoing basis
  • Provides input on how to improve customer service, decrease costs and increase revenues for the practice

Customer Service

  • Supports the practice core values and mission statement to develop, enhance, and promote quality customer service through team effort
  • Exhibits flexibility, sensitivity, and respect while maintaining an effective working relationship with all team members

Must have a working knowledge of clinical work-ups, testing, coding, billing and compliance issues

Maintains practice confidentiality, follows HIPAA/OSHA guidelines, follows and enforces the rules and regulations of the practice as documented by the practice employee manual

Assumes other duties as assigned

OTHER

The Surgical Manager must be able to travel to various satellite locations as needed for meetings and to provide supervision of practice personnel. When driving on company business, maintenance of a valid Texas driver’s license and satisfactory driving record is required.
