About the Position
Position will perform skilled maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and installation on any systems maintained and operated through Technical Maintenance including but not limited to:
  • HVAC/R equipment, controls, steam heating systems and other associated systems.
  • Low voltage controls for associated electrical/electronic equipment.
  • Direct Digital Controls (DDC) and associated electronic components.
Required Qualifications
  • High School graduate or approved equivalent
  • 06A Electrical license or training card
  • Possession of an EPA recognized refrigerant handling certificate
  • Demonstrated experience in doing work in commercial and/or institutional settings
  • Completion of a two-year approved institution course as a Control Technician Trainee
    • OR equivalent institutional course such as an AAS degree in HVAC/R Technology
    • OR four years of applicable experience in installation, repair, and maintenance of HVAC/R equipment, and electrical and/or pneumatic control systems.
  • Vocational or trade school training in control mechanisms may be substituted, year-for-year, for work experience up to a maximum of two years. Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as licenses, certifications, and registration.
  • Experience working in sensitive situations, such as operational offices, classrooms, dorm rooms, rest rooms, etc.
  • Valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain one prior to starting work
  • Physically perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to perform daily work tasks independently under limited supervision.
  • Possess technical accuracy and recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work with computer hardware and software required to track work orders and record time worked.
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a friendly and cooperative manner with students, staff, and faculty at all levels of the organization and in contacts with the public.
  • Ability to manage time well and work under pressure situations with tight schedules and deadlines to complete projects.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong commercial refrigeration experience and skills.
  • Experience with Siemens Apogee Building Automation Control Systems (BACS), DDC controls and computer-based networked controls with central monitoring.
  • Experience with pneumatic controls systems.
  • Experience with HVAC System Balancing TAB procedures and documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce high-quality work with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, including written, graphic, and verbal.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations.
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington Administrative Code (WAC) regulations and local building codes.
  • A knowledge of Washington Industrial Safety and Health Act (WISHA), Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA)
  • Rules and regulations, standard job safety rules, and proper use of a face respirator.
  • Experience with reading and comprehending various computer program languages.

$62,277 - $70,453/year depending on qualifications and experience
