Job summary

As a Construction Project Estimator you will be playing a critical role in supporting construction projects that are heavily focused wihin the mining industry including assigned tasks directly related to communication, relationship building and negotiation with the client, vendors and internal networks. Our project estimators perform various functions in their quest to produce correct and accurate estimates for proposed projects. Our estimating model, tools, resources, and support staff are designed to aid winning and increasing value for clients and the overall success of the company.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Setting priorities by preparing works to be accomplished by gathering information and requirements
  • Preparing social reports by gathering, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
  • Building and maintaining healthy relationships with key vendors, subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, clients, team members, etc.
  • Creating and submitting accurate estimate reports or bids to the appropriate individuals, such as the upper management, project managers, clients, bidding competitions, etc.
  • Examining and determining key variables for cost and other estimates
  • Efficiently monitoring and overseeing projects in order to ensure that developments meet objectives, agreed on deadlines and budgetary requirements
  • Creating projects for clients so as to enable them to get a broad scope of the project.
  • Creating and maintaining open lines of communication between internal departments such as project manager and drafting
  • Providing adequate customer support as at when needed
  • Recording data and estimating the number of materials needed, and also making use of complex mathematical formulas to determine the final cost of development.
  • Document lessons learned and transmitting actual cost and schedule data to the estimating team for use in future project development
  • Adhere to all rules and regulations at all times and wear proper safety equipment while on site
  • Meet or exceed company safety standards.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of estimating experience in the commercial estimating / field experience as a superintendent/PM/or Construction Management Degree or similar field required (Mining focused preferred)
  • Outstanding oral and written communication and negotiation abilities, as a project estimator is required to liaise with colleagues, subcontractors, and clients, and also negotiate with vendors in order to come up with a cost-effective decision.
  • Excellent self-management and organizational skills, which enable a project estimator to manage projects efficiently and also maintain calmness and composure when under pressure.
  • Sound mathematical skills with high analytical and computer literacy ability, which is required to identify and tackle issues tactically with the use of relevant computer tools or software.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Must be detail-oriented, organized and focused on accuracy
  • Knowledge of construction field including the ability to read and comprehend blueprints and specifications
  • Ability to perform estimate take offs with accuracy
  • Advanced technology skills, including Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, Bluebeam
  • Ability to build and maintain good vendor relationships
  • Must be able to work independently to meet deadlines
  • Experience with commercial/industrial construction means and methods.

Working conditions

  • Must be able to accommodate customer needs by working flexible hours which may include weekends.
  • Ability to work with standard office/computer Equipment.
  • Capable of working in an open office environment and at a field construction site with exposure to extreme temperatures, noise, vibrations and a wet and /or humid environment
  • Ability to participate in required overnight travel as necessary.
  • Minimal travel may be required, up to 25%

Physical requirements

  • Requires walking, sitting, standing, lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, grasping, crouching, stooping reaching and repetitive motions to a significant degree..
  • Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently
  • Job involves sitting most of the time, but also involves walking or standing for brief periods of time.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, in order to communicate to employees/visitors.
