Western Illinois University is Hiring a Learning and Support Specialist II Near Macomb, IL

  • Responsibilities:
    • Works directly with students in-person and virtually, including evening and/or weekend options made available, with an emphasis on incumbent workers and “grow your own” teacher candidates to support them in their degree pathway, including but not limited to mentoring, coaching, tutoring, and time management.
    • Provides resource navigation assistance to students helping them to find and access University and community supports that will help them successfully continue in their degree pathway.
    • Provides self-care, organization skills, and emotional wellness support, and/or assistance finding appropriate supports when needed.
    • Provides technical assistance in the associated workplace settings (public school classrooms, community-based childcare settings, and home childcare settings) to apply educational best practices learned in their coursework, including supervision for practicums and student teaching, as necessary.
    • Keeps up-to-date on educational best practices (with a targeted focus on rural early childhood), advocacy points of interest, legislation, and endorsement information through attending workshops, meetings, and conferences as suggested/directed by their direct supervisor/assigned project director.
    • Keeps up-to-date on scholarship and opportunities for incumbent workers, “grow your own” teaching candidates, nontraditional students, and BIPOC educators, and helps students access appropriate opportunities.
    • Teams with faculty serving School of Education students to help develop and adapt courses to make them equitable, accessible, and applicable to the workforce and teacher residency/internship scenarios, including highlighting best practices in rural education settings.
    • Works collaboratively with Early Childhood and other necessary stakeholders, including state agencies and their grantees as designated by their direct supervisor/assigned project director.
    • Participates in statewide Early Childhood activities and/or serves on statewide Early Childhood and other appropriate educational committees, consortiums, or stakeholder groups as suggested by the ECACE/Workforce Diversity project director
    • Maintains records and write reports
    • Assists in recruitment
    • Assists in grant writing as related to the incumbent workforce
    • Serves as supervisor for practicums and student teaching
    • Works on and assists with the development of model videos for Gateways competencies and related educational standards
  • Required Qualifications:

    CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER:

    • A Master’s degree in Early Childhood, ESL/Bilingual Education, Special Education, Elementary Education, Social Work, or Educational Leadership
    • At least three (3) years (36 months) working in rural education settings in early childhood or a related field
    • Possession of a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel, including some overnight stays
  • Starting Salary: $3,368 /Monthly
