Content Area or Department Brief Description

WestEd Early Childhood Intervention, Mental Health, and Inclusion content area team provides training and technical assistance in policy development, translation of research to practice, systems evaluation, and implementation of evidence-based practices in support of young children with or at risk for disabilities and their families.

The team partners with state and local education and human service agencies to build capacity to promote a comprehensive approach to improving developmental, academic, and behavioral outcomes for children and youth. Strategies and tools include effective practices to build the capacity of systems, educators, and other providers as they implement and support successful outcomes for diverse populations.

The Opportunity

Our small, diverse, and passionate team is looking for a dynamic Program Assistant to join the team and be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Our team focuses on projects that lie at the intersection of racial equity, social justice, infant-family and early childhood mental health, and workforce development. The Program Assistant will undertake a variety of project management support, administrative, and event coordination activities that are geared toward virtual and in-person training for early childhood professionals. Specifically, this position includes hosting Zoom workshops, supporting in-person workshops, meeting scheduling, working in an online registration system, and responding to participant needs. 

Also, the ideal candidate will need to have experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as the ability to flex communication styles to match multiple cultural environments. Our team places an extremely high value on supporting access for all early childhood providers for our activities, including supporting language and physical access supports, the Program Assistant will help us go above and beyond to create accessible environments. Therefore, the successful candidate will need to have excellent communication skills and the ability to present to diverse audiences. Spoken and written language abilities in Spanish are strongly desired.

For this position, you must also be in King County, Washington, and be able to work from our Seattle office a few days a week.

Core Focus Areas

Event Production

  • Provide support for virtual Zoom training, such as scheduling, hosting, creating breakout rooms, supporting interpretation in multiple languages, preparing materials for, and troubleshooting participant technology issues for regular Zoom training.
  • Take attendance, support survey completion, and certificate generation.
  • Post training registration on the training website and manage registrants.
  • Work with task leads to coordinate with workshop facilitators and funders.
  • Provide support for in-person training in King County. This includes supporting on-site registration, event set-up and clean-up, technology support, and coordination with trainers and funders.
  • Track interpreter and other accessibility accommodation needs and arrange and support interpreters accordingly.

Outreach and Communication

  • Update website content to ensure accessibility and a broad reach to the communities we serve.
  • Support holding booths at in-person community events.
  • Ability to flex communication style to multiple cultural environments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.

What We’re Looking For

  • Must be located in King County, Washington, and be able to work from our Seattle office one to three days a week.
  • Available infrequently for evening & weekend training (once or twice per month).
  • Occasional travel in King County.
  • Speak and engage in written communication in Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • A commitment to racial and social justice and improving outcomes for babies, young children, and their families.
  • Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities in a timely and organized manner.
  • Initiative, resourcefulness, and careful attention to detail.
  • Experience with common web-based business solutions and managing Zoom meetings.
  • Good writing ability and command of the English language.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • The ability to learn quickly and multi-task effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work as a team member.

Other degrees, skills, abilities, and experiences of interest

  • Two years of relevant experience in hosting training or event management.
  • Knowledge of the fields of early child development or special education.

WestEd conducts a criminal background check and education verification for all new hires. Any offers of employment will be contingent on receiving a clear background check in accordance with applicable law.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The full salary range for this position, WestEd level 6, is $63,200 to $94,800, but WestEd does not typically hire at or near the top of the salary range. The typical hiring range for this role is $63,200 to $79,000. The actual offer takes into account multiple factors, including but not limited to education, experience, internal equity, and other organizational needs. 

In addition to the base salary, benefits include:

· 15% contribution toward retirement effective day 1 of employment

· Pre-tax Flexible Spending Accounts

· All health/welfare benefits are effective the first of the month following the hire date

· PTO: 3 weeks’ vacation (increases to 4 weeks beginning the 4th year of employment), paid holidays, and 12 days paid sick leave per year
