King County is Hiring a King County Veterans Reentry Program Coordinator (PPM I) Near Seattle, WA

Summary

King County's Department of Community and Human Services (DCHS) provides equitable opportunities for people to be healthy, happy, and connected to community.
The Adult Services Division (ASD) seeks to hire a term-limited temporary King County Veterans Reentry Program Coordinator, Project/Program Manager I. The position will work collaboratively with staff at King County Veterans Program (KCVP), Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention, and Veterans Affairs partners to support veterans involved in the criminal legal system transition from incarceration into community. This position may require local travel in and around King County.

This recruitment is to fill a Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position that is anticipated to end June 31, 2025. If filled by a King County employee who has passed their initial probation, the TLT will be as a Special Duty Assignment (SDA).

Job Duties

To be considered minimally qualified, applicants must demonstrate a background that provides the knowledge, skill and ability to:
  • Provide outreach, engagement and reentry support/care coordination for veterans who are incarcerated in King County correctional facilities and/or recently released to King County.
  • Conduct reentry needs assessments, develop reentry plans, and coordinate services with community resources, in order to best connect with available services and inform future policies for serving incarcerated veterans.
  • Develop community partnerships in order to assist clients in securing linkages to behavioral and primary healthcare; housing; veterans benefits and/or other entitlements and publicly funded benefits; educational and vocational resources; and other basic needs.
  • Collaborate with criminal legal partners to understand the needs of incarcerated veterans and facilitate reentry/resource groups at King County correctional facilities (in coordination with community partners when appropriate) to address identified needs.
  • Serve as liaison to King County Veterans Program and work collaboratively with the following partners in order to identify and provide reentry support services to King County veterans with criminal legal system involvement: VA Puget Sound; King County Jail Health Services; King County Therapeutic Courts; King County Department of Public Defense (DPD); King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office (PAO); correctional facilities in King County, and other agencies as needed.
  • Gather data and identify trends that exist in the incarcerated veteran population and assist in analysis for program development and continuous quality improvement.
  • Identify gaps and barriers in available community resources and advocate for systemic changes. Network with other jurisdictions to coordinate and share information.
  • Assist in program planning, data submission, and report drafting. Collaborate with criminal legal/correctional facility partners on reporting needs as requested.
  • Maintain a broad working knowledge of veteran resources in King County and coordinate services, including VSHSL-funded programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • At least two (2) years of experience working with veteran or military services and resources, especially in King County or the Puget Sound region, including King County Veterans Program, VSHSL-funded partners and the WA state and federal VA.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as a team lead, and as a team member.
  • Knowledge of health and social issues impacting target population and community wellbeing.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, especially in emergent situations.
  • Skills in gathering and using data to identify community and individual-level trends.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook email, and web-based applications.
  • Skill in oral and written communications, including experience presenting information to community partners.
  • Experience providing social services or support to community outreach programs.
  • Must be able to pass a security clearance and/or background check to secure access to King County correctional facilities.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
  • Washington State Driver’s License or ability to get around community in a timely manner.
  • Degree in social work and/or related field (i.e., sociology, psychology, counseling, human services, etc.).
Desired Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:
  • Knowledge of the veteran homelessness response system in King County and the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Demonstrated community partnerships affecting the target population (for example, King County correctional facilities, King County DPD, King County PAO, King County courts, WA Department of Corrections, state/federal VA, King County Veterans Program, King County behavioral health or social service providers).

ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION:
  • This position has been designated Non-Mission Critical. Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather.   • This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval.
  • This position is represented by PROTEC17: Professional and Technical Employees, Local 17.
  • The work associated with this position will be performed or conducted through a combination of teleworking and onsite work and meetings at our KCVP Tukwila location (645 Andover Park W, Suite 100, Tukwila, WA 98188), our KCVP Northgate location (Northgate Executive Center II, 9725 3rd Ave NE, Suite 300, Seattle, WA 98115), and other various locations throughout King County. Employees will have access to shared workspaces at various King County facilities. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
