Boat Master/Captain (PART-TIME)

Assignment Location: State Parks / Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park - Parks and Recreation Section - Parkersburg

Nature of Work

West Virginia State Parks is accepting applications for a Boat Captain position that will transport guests to Blennerhassett Island from Point Park in Parkersburg and back on a regular schedule. The work will be five to six days a week, depending on the seasonal scheduling and passenger ticket sales. The captain will navigate a state owned sternwheeler along with a crew, also employed by the state park.

Primary duties

Responsible for seaworthiness and safe operation of a 149 passenger sternwheeler. Duties include transporting passengers to Blennerhassett Island aboard a passenger sternwheeler, general maintenance of sternwheeler, training and supervising necessary crew, maintaining compliance with all U.S. Coast Guard

Guard safety regulations, maintaining correspondence with the U.S. Coast Guard.Responsible for seaworthiness and safe operation of passenger sternwheeler. Responsible for safety of passengers, crew, and vessel. May perform other related duties as assigned.

Special Requirement:

Must be United States Merchant Marine Officer. Licensed as a Master of Steam and Motor Vessel, Western Rivers or Inland, 100 Gross Ton. Must pass drug screening in accordance with the U.S. Coast Guard Regulations.

Preference given to individuals who have radar endorsement. .

Work Hours:

This is a part-time March 1 - November 30 position with Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park of the West Virginia State Parks. Scheduling will be up to 40 hours per week, however, work hours will be primarily Tuesday through Sunday 8:30am-5:30pm, and up to forty hours per week. negotiable based on experience.
