Wildlife/Fish Management/Raleigh County Under supervision of the Assistant Chief of Fisheries, this employee serves as the District Fishery Biologist for an 8-county area in the Southeastern portion of the state. Employee will be responsible for administering the state fisheries management program within the district; supervising District Fisheries field staff; conducting fishery surveys on state waters; planning and conducting fisheries research projects; analyzing and interpreting data; writing technical reports and scientific publications; maintaining sampling and research equipment; and maintaining public fishing and boating access sites. Assisting the Assistant Chief in various administrative duties including purchasing, activity reporting, and data management.

Employee may serve as a project leader for statewide fisheries research or development projects. Other duties will include presenting fishery management information at scientific meetings and to the public; representing the agency in intergovernmental activities concerning fisheries issues. Work requires overnight travel and is often performed outside, in varying weather conditions, over difficult terrain and/or state waters. Special requirements include excellent communication skills in both writing and public speaking. Will perform other related work as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Training: Master of Science degree from an accredited college or university with a major in wildlife or fisheries management and biology, fish culture, conservation biology, natural resources, aquatic biology, botany, biological sciences or environmental sciences. Preference will be given to educational and field experience as related to specific job postings.

AND

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in wildlife or fishery management or related fields.

OR

Substitution: Doctor of Philosophy degree from an accredited college or university with a major in wildlife or fisheries management and biology, fish culture, conservation biology, natural resources, aquatic biology, botany, biological sciences or environmental sciences.

Special Requirements: A valid driver’s license is required. May be required to obtain a commercial driver’s license. Skill in swimming, scuba diving, snorkeling, rock-climbing, rappelling and/or trapping may be required for certain positions.

Pay: $49,642.00 - $91,837.00 per year
