Maintenance III - Low Voltage Technician - District Operations


This is an 8 hour/day, 12 month position under the Classified Bargaining Unit.
The start date is as soon as possible. This position is open until filled.


DEFINITION

Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager and/or the Maintenance Supervisor, assist with low voltage work in one or more trades in the maintenance, construction, and repair of district buildings; perform related work as required.


DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This position is an entry-level position for the Low Voltage Technician trade. This position differs from Journeyman Craft Specialist Low Voltage Technician, due to the higher licensing requirements and experience required for the Journeyman Craft Specialist position.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
:

  • Assist with installing, servicing, repairing, and maintaining various specialized telephone and electric equipment, including Voice-Over Internet Protocol (VOIP), intercom, radio, clock, bell, and fire alarm systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, adjust, program, and service electrical equipment and assist end users with necessary set-up, operation, and configuration changes.
  • Participate in problem-solving, analyzing, and recommending best practice solutions.
  • Updates and maintains wiring locations for telephone and network systems.
  • Assist Journeyman with installing cable, conduit, or fiber optic runs, including terminations, in District facilities.
  • Replace equipment for proper or improved electrical systems.
  • Assist Journeyman with performing wiring in commercial and residential buildings, running conduits, and systems.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of the safety procedures appropriate to electrical repair work required. Working knowledge of federal, state, and local electrical, fire, and building codes.
  • Knowledge of standard electrical and electronic equipment including, but not limited to, VOIP systems, intercoms, clock systems, low voltage controls, remote controls, fire alarm systems, building automation, and automated electrical control systems.


Ability to
:

  • Ability to proficiently use appropriate computer applications for your assigned areas of responsibility;
  • Work cooperatively with others within established maintenance procedures;
  • Follow both oral and written instructions;
  • Keep accurate records and originate written reports when required;
  • Work within established safety procedures;
  • Ability to work at heights over 100 feet;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Examples of other duties could include but are not limited to: carpentry, locksmithing, HVAC, roofing, lighting, building custodial coverage, groundskeeping, moving, and any other duty that will help promote the District goal of Creating learning communities for the greatest thinkers and most thoughtful people… for the world.
  • Operate computer and knowledge of technical programs;
  • Routinely lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and over 50 pounds with assistance;
  • Complete all district-required training.


License:

  • Must possess a current Oregon operator’s license issued by the State Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • A current Oregon Limited Energy A or B journeyman electrical license is preferred.
  • The Oregon Limited Energy Technician Apprentice card is accepted.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in the field of Low Voltage electrical construction and/or maintenance. Work experience must evidence the ability to perform tasks assigned.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent as required by Oregon Administrative Rules, Oregon Department of Education.
