Description

Reports to the Accounting Manager. Responsible for supporting West Fraser finance and accounting systems including accounts payable, payroll, financial and operational reporting for a mill. The individual will drive initiatives and provide thought leadership in areas such as margin improvement (MIP), best practices, analysis and cost control to the operation, including working along with mill personnel to ensure timely, accurate, and relevant financial and statistical analysis and reporting for mill management.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Learn and develop a strong understanding of the various aspects of the mill to provide insight into margin improvement (MIP) opportunities, capital plans, and project budgets.
• Support the timely and accurate reporting of financial, operational and statistical data.
• Support margin improvement efforts by actively working with supervisors/managers, utilizing SPC methodology; evaluating cost objectives and providing analyses that helps identify opportunity areas and reporting on the results
• Develop and maintain reporting of financial and non-financial key performance indicators
• Support mill accounting activities including accounts payable, payroll and financial reporting
• Prepare forecasts, weekly P&L, production cost models, etc.;

Financial Management and Reporting:

• Responsible for assisting with month-end closing process and reporting, general ledger reconciliations, account analyses etc.
• Help to ensure that accounting is in compliance with company policies and internal controls
• Serve as backup to Accounts Payable and Payroll as well as to the Accounting Manager

Planning and Forecasting

• Assist in the completion of weekly and quarterly forecasts, and annual business plans
• Analyze forecast to actual variances, understand drivers and communicate / share information with mill management

Working Capital Management:

• Assist in providing leadership in the management of working capital
• Work with mill management to ensure that the payables are optimized without impacting negatively the mill operations

Fixed Asset Management:

• Evaluation of financial returns of capital projects
• Measure and report on the performance of capital projects
• Complete post completion audits

Statistical Process Control Coordinator:

• Develop and establish mill tracking mechanism.
• Work with department heads and front line supervisors to establish SPC charting and tracking.
• Establish MIP trackers.

Qualifications

• University degree in accounting; CPA or CMA candidate (potentially); minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience;
