West Fraser is Hiring a Maintenance Manager - OSB Near Cordele, GA

The Maintenance Manager ensures that equipment and labor objectives are met for the maintenance department, establishes and plans maintenance priorities with input from operations management, provides direction and approval to contractors and champions a safety conscious workforce. This includes staff motivation, evaluation, environmental health & safety (EHS), training, staffing levels, equipment needs, scheduling and employee relations issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

These responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Work safely and follow safe working practices.
  • Act to correct or report unsafe working conditions and behavior.
  • Take reasonable and prudent actions to prevent others from engaging in unsafe practices.
  • Attend and complete Company required training.
  • Assist maintenance planning and reliability maintenance with CMMS / Ivara system.
  • Monitor and improve processes, procedures and equipment to reduce or eliminate safety hazards and risks, with a goal of achieving a zero OSHA recordable case rate.
  • Manage, direct, coach, mentor, lead, train and motivate subordinate personnel to achieve departmental goals and objectives in a timely and safe manner, while continuously striving to improve subordinate skills and manufacturing effectiveness.
  • Develop and implement maintenance training strategy to enhance core skills and competencies of craft personnel.
  • Maintain a high level of internal control over the maintenance processes and implement controls to adequately manage business risks consistent within Company expectations. This includes preparing and monitoring performance of plant wide maintenance spending to budget.
  • Manage, set priorities and lead all maintenance activities and processes to meet customer requirements and plant goals for safety, quality, quantity produced and cost effectiveness.
  • Establishes staffing levels, equipment needs and maintenance schedules to ensure quality products, and timely and cost effective deliveries.
  • Develop and implement overall Maintenance Strategy and work with Reliability to ensure maximum equipment operational availability.
  • Function as primary contact for mechanical and electrical contractors on shut downs, capital and major maintenance projects.
  • Maintain and foster positive employee relations and communications both within the Maintenance Organization and among the plant’s various departments.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the General Manager.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform this role. These are the qualifications that are necessary for someone to be considered for the position. A reasonable accommodation may be allowed for some aspects of the role as determined by Human Resources.

Minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in preferred.
  • Valid state issued driver’s license
  • Three to five years working in fast paced, multi-tasking industrial manufacturing environment
  • Two or more years of supervisory experience, including conducting personnel reviews, hiring and firing
  • Minimum of five or more years of progressively responsible experience in an industrial maintenance function.
  • Advanced computer skills including MS Office software
  • Strong knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and the tools associated with failure detection (i.e. vibration analysis, oil monitoring, thermography) as well as the software associated with them
  • Strong mechanical and electrical knowledge and aptitude
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Working Conditions

The incumbent will divide their time between an office setting and operational setting which may include, hot, cold, wet and humid conditions. The incumbent may be periodically required to work extended or varied hours in order to accomplish tasks. 

Physical Requirements

This position requires a high degree of physical mobility to include frequent climbing of stairs, navigating catwalks, working at heights up to 130 feet above the ground, crawling, bending, stooping and reaching on. Periodic lifting up to 20 lbs. is essential.
