West Fraser Joanna OSB Mill is Hiring a Millwright Apprentice Near Kinards, SC

Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor the maintenance apprentice will work with our Millwrights to learn the mill operations, equipment and preventative maintenance tasks. They will assist with the installation and maintenance of machinery and equipment using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools and power tools to include troubleshooting and bench repair.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude but are not limited to the following:

  • Using hand tools and/or power tools performs routine scheduled maintenance on plant property and equipment.
  • Perform specialized maintenance on equipment employing hydraulics and/or pneumatic functions.
  • Have a thorough understanding of established safety procedures to be employed throughout the mill to include lockout/tag-out, personal protective equipment, confined space entry, permitting for hot work and confined space.
  • Capable of operating mobile equipment to include, but not limited to, man lifts, cranes, scissor lifts and fork lifts.
  • Install, upgrade and or retro-fit equipment employed within an OSB mill environment.
  • Complete detailed maintenance/inspection in accordance with manufacture or

Company guidelines.

  • Prepare basic drawings to support in house fabrication requirements as required.
  • Completion of maintenance work orders as necessary.
  • Coordinate with the Electrical Section of the Maintenance Department as necessary to maximize maintenance efficiencies.
  • Using various welding techniques in the fabrication or repair of operating

equipment.

  • Read and understand blue prints.
  • Ability to install and/or repair plumbing or air systems.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

  • The ability to trouble shoot all areas of mechanical malfunctions, to include hydraulics and pneumatics and take necessary corrective action to minimize down time of machinery or equipment.
  • Demonstrated competency with a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Ability complete assigned maintenance projects in a timely and accurate manner..
  • Ability to perform essential mathematical/measurement functions using

calculators or appropriate measuring devices.

  • Knowledge of maintenance/inspection requirement for all plant property and equipment.
  • 6. Thorough understanding of work place safety and lock out/tag out theory and
  • Computer literate to include use of Microsoft Office software applications, i.e. word, excel and access.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum - working towards an AA Degree with concentration in mechatronics, industrial skills or Maintenace
  • Strong desire to learn and grow

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to accurately analyze problems, formulating and proposing logical corrective steps and/or remedies.

  • I. The following repetitious activities are essential to this position: climbing of stairs, crawling, bending, stooping, lifting, placing and reaching..
  • Repetitious use of hand tools, both manual and powered in the performance of assigned tasks.
  • The incumbent will be required to work rotating shifts.
  • The incumbent may be periodically compelled to work extended or varied hours in order to accomplished assigned tasks.
  • Periodic lifting up to a minimum of 75 pounds is essential.
  • Incumbent must be able to accommodate shifting priorities in stressful tine sensitive environment.
  • Alertness and attention to safety and the use of safety related equipment is essential to ensure personal safety and the safety of.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The apprentice will be required to work both indoors and out of doors year around. Indoors the incumbent will work in an operating mill environment. Incumbent will routinely be exposed to varying ambient temperatures. There is continual exposure to high levels of dust and noise and appropriate personal protective equipment is provided and use is mandatory. Working out of doors, the incumbent will be exposed to extremes in ambient temperatures and environs.
