Position Summary

West Chester University of Pennsylvania Facilities Division invites applicants for the two positions of Custodial Worker Supervisor. The hours are Monday to Friday; 4 PM to 12 AM and Sunday to Thursday; 10:30 PM to 6:30 AM.

The supervisor is responsible for the custodial services of an assigned area (academic, administrative, and athletic facilities) at WCU. The position oversees a custodial team of 12 to 15, assigns and prioritizes work, and maintains quality standards.
The ideal candidate values teamwork and collaboration, is dependable, takes initiative, solves problems effectively and communicates clearly.

Responsibilities include:
  • Oversee and maintain compliance with work standards, work assignments, and cleaning policy and procedures
  • Assure employees safety through training programs and supervision of use of equipment, materials, chemical products, and protective devices
  • Inspect equipment and facilitate repair requests
  • Conduct quality inspections of work performed and facilities using quality assurance process
  • Respond to customer requests with courtesy and coordinate service
  • Generate reports including daily activity, staff call outs, and maintenance issues
  • Report injuries and/or accidents following procedures
  • Document and initiate disciplinary action in accordance with University policy and procedure; contractual agreements; and labor-relations standard practices
  • Maintain supplies and inventory control for assigned buildings
  • Respond to emergencies to coordinate the staff and equipment
  • Review and approve leave requests
  • Complete annual employee performance reviews for assigned staff
  • Perform related duties as assigned
As a member of the Facilities Divisional staff, this position is deemed "essential" and must remain or report to work during partial or full day closing of the University due to hazardous road conditions, emergency circumstances or for other reasons.
Minimum Qualifications

  • One year as a Custodial Worker 2 (Commonwealth title) OR
  • Two years of experience performing custodial work
  • Valid driver's license
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the materials, methods, and practices used in custodial work
  • Knowledge of aseptic and sanitation materials hazards and safety guidelines
  • Ability to read and understand written materials
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
Preferred Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Customer service experience
