West Bay Collaborative is Hiring a Special Education Teacher, 6-12 Near Warwick, RI
PLACEMENT : Upper School REPORTS TO : Secondary Program Administrator/Director of Special Education WORK YEAR REQUIREMENTS : 185-day school year RESPONSIBILITIES :
Work jointly with classroom and subject area teachers to provide instruction to students using the Common Core State Standards
Chair and write all Individualized Education Plans and 504 Plans
Progress monitor IEP's quarterly, and provide feedback to sending districts and parent(s)/guardian(s)
Attend all intake meetings and amend IEPs to reflect the Upper School program
Work with School Counselor to align transition goals with student interest and ability
Collaborate with Social Worker/School Counselor/Teachers weekly to discuss student needs and accommodations both behaviorally and academically
Conduct educational evaluations as needed for IEP team meetings or to demonstrate progress
Attend IEP and other meetings to present students' current levels of performance and identify future needs
Work with educators and other staff to develop structures and procedures that will enable students with social/emotional/behavioral/mental health needs to succeed in school and community
Implement, modify, and report on those procedures for identified students
Collect data as needed to monitor efficacy of individual behavioral programs
Communicate expectations and outcomes to students, staff and families on a regular basis
Work directly with students at-risk to help them develop appropriate behaviors and conflict resolution skills
Provide support to staff and students in the event of a safety-related incident, including, when necessary, the use of appropriate physical intervention
Support students in their efforts to complete classroom work and to achieve their annual and long-term academic goals
Perform duties as assigned by the Site Administrator or the Director of Special Education
Requirements QUALIFICATIONS :
Certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education in Secondary Special Education, preferred
Knowledge of, and experience with, multiple teaching techniques and methods to modify classroom instruction to meet students' needs
Relevant work experience and effectiveness with a population that exhibits challenging behaviors
Knowledge and understanding of health, safety, and emergency procedures in a school environment
Training and competency in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or ability to successfully complete training upon hire
