West Bay Collaborative is Hiring a Content Area Teacher- History, Grades 7-12 Near Warwick, RI

Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with other content area teachers, special education teachers, and support staff to integrate various concepts of the content area curricula and common core state standards for a cohesive learning experience, utilizing daily life examples and experiences within classroom instruction to meet students’ needs
  • Prepare and plan learning experiences that meet the students’ education goals and needs and provide meaningful learning opportunities for student growth.
  • Assess student learning through both direct and indirect measures and a variety of modalities which enable each student to demonstrate knowledge of content,
  • Communicate expectations and outcomes to students and families on a regular basis and in mutually agreed upon avenues ( ex.email, text, phone calls, notes, etc.)
  • Implement and follow students Individualized Education Plans and 504 Plans working collaboratively with special education teachers, support staff and specialists
  • Attend IEP and other meetings to present students’ current levels of performance and identify future needs as requested
  • Work with educators and other staff to develop structures and procedures that will enable students with social/emotional and mental health needs to succeed in school and in the community
  • Implement, modify, and report on those procedures for identified students
  • Collect data as needed to monitor efficacy of individual behavioral programs
  • Work directly with students at-risk to help them develop appropriate coping strategies and conflict resolution skills
  • Work directly with Administration, Teachers, Support Staff and Specialists, to develop student programming and collect student data
  • Provide support to staff and students in the event of a safety-related incident, including, when necessary, the use of appropriate physical intervention
  • Support students in their efforts to complete classroom work and to achieve their annual and long-term academic goals
  • Perform duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education and/or Program Administrator

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certification from the Rhode Island Department of Education in content area; additional certification in Special Education a plus
  • Knowledge of, and experience with multiple teaching techniques and methods to differentiate classroom instruction to meet students’ individual learning needs
  • Experience using technology in the classroom to enhance student learning
  • Relevant work experience and effectiveness with a population that exhibits challenging behaviors
  • Knowledge and understanding of health, safety and emergency procedures in a school environment
  • Training and competency in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention or ability to successfully complete training upon being hired
