Position Summary:

Wenatchee Valley College seeks an innovative part-time Instructor to join our drafting program as a part-time faculty member specializing in Field Survey Techniques within the Drafting Technology program. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in imparting foundational knowledge and practical skills related to field survey techniques using cutting-edge tools and methods. The Drafting Technology certificate program provides training for individuals seeking employment as drafting technicians for architects, construction companies, contractors, utilities, surveying, and engineering firms.

Essential Functions:

• Conduct engaging lectures to communicate theoretical concepts and principles related to field survey techniques.
• Provide learning activities and appropriate evaluation of student progress toward attaining the learning outcomes and abilities set by the department and the college.
• Oversee and guide students in hands-on field labs, ensuring the proper use of tools such as a total station and leveling equipment.
• Collaborate with the drafting program team to enhance and update the curriculum, incorporating industry best practices and technological advancements.
• Design and administer assessments to evaluate students' understanding of theoretical concepts and their proficiency in applying survey techniques in practical scenarios.
• Provide guidance and mentorship to students, fostering a positive learning environment and encouraging their professional development.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administration.
• Responsive customer service for a culturally diverse population
• Maintain Professional Technical Educator certification which includes a professional development plan and may include maintenance of other certifications as required by program (per WAC 131-16-092 and 131-16-093)
• Work successfully with students with academic difficulties to develop college level skills.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, and administration.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor's degree or minimum of 3 years in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Substantial professional experience in land surveying and a thorough understanding of field survey techniques, control point establishment, and topographic mapping.
• Familiarity with the operation of surveying tools such as total stations and leveling equipment. Knowledge of industry-standard software for topographic mapping is a plus.
• Eligibility for professional technical certification in the State of Washington (per WAC 131-16-080 and 131-16-091)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in civil engineering, Drafting, Surveying or related field.
• Four (4) or more years demonstrated teaching experience at the university or community/technical college level.
• Ability to teach in e-learning modes including pure online delivery, hybrid and telecourses, and ability to enhance traditional classes with interactive television, multimedia presentations, and Internet resources.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse students with a wide range of skills and abilities.
• Experience in curriculum design and student outcome assessment.

Terms of Employment:

This is a part-time, non-benefit-eligible faculty position that typically pays $6,197.56 for each five-credit class taught. Class(es) may be day or evening, depending on need.
