Job Summary

This position is for an equity-focused instructor, passionate about guiding diverse adult learners to achieve their educational and career goals. This instructor will teach classes in all subjects for high school completion through WVC’s HS program using culturally responsive curriculum and instructional practices. Instruction will include all components of language (reading, writing, speaking, and listening) to prepare students for direct articulation into college-level classes, multiple subjects of history, science, math, and various other subjects such as fitness, health, art and digital literacy. Additional responsibilities of the position include participation in curriculum development and revision, scheduled office hours, department meetings, continuous improvement efforts (including assessment efforts), college committees and task groups, assessment of learning outcomes, advising of students for degree and career success, assistance with administrative tasks of the department, including responsibilities specific to faculty in basic education for adults (BEdA), and other related duties as assigned by the administration.

Essential Functions

  • Adhere to, promote and effectively teach official curricula as determined by the transitional studies and approved by the college.
  • Provide learning activities and appropriate evaluation of student progress toward attaining the learning outcomes and abilities set by the department and the college.
  • Work successfully with students with academic difficulties to develop college level skills.
  • Effectively participate in departmental and college teaching and learning activities.
  • Effectively apply quality teaching and learning processes and principles.
  • Maintain and submit appropriate individual student records as required.
  • Apply electronic informational retrieval (EIR) technologies to effective teaching and learning.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty and administration.
  • Develop a professional improvement plan and participate in continuous improvement activities.
  • Commit to equity-minded pedagogy and addressing the needs of disproportionately impacted populations as priorities of the department.
  • Understand and be sensitive to meeting the needs of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic background of the students, community and employee population.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A master’s degree in teaching or adult education, developmental studies (instruction, curriculum design), or other closely related field, from an accredited institution of graduate education, and significant post-secondary coursework in at least one additional discipline useful for high school completion programs, such as history/social sciences, math, natural science or English/composition.
  • Successful teaching experience.
  • A personal teaching philosophy that is centered on students and dedicated to equity.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience creating culturally responsive curriculum and assessments.
  • Experience in assessing student learning outcomes and standards as they relate to BEdA programs, and the ability to apply the results of assessments to improving course/program curriculum and instructional practices to improve student learning.
  • Successful teaching experience in BEdA or Adult Education programs, including high school completion programs and ESL/ELA programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in e-learning modes including fully online, hybrid, telecourses, and technology-enhanced face-to-face modes.
  • Experience with any of the following: career assessments/advising, student mentoring programs, tutoring programs and services, financial aid/scholarships/grant programs, and/or social service programs or agencies.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment:
This is a full-time, tenure track faculty position contracted on an annual basis. The salary for the position is determined by placement on the Wenatchee Valley College full-time faculty schedule (currently $70,149 to $82,480 for a 9-month, 175-day contract).This position is scheduled to begin fall quarter (September) 2024.

Bargaining Unit:
This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the Association for Higher Education. Faculty workload, compensation and job expectations are defined by a contract negotiated between the faculty union and the WVC Board of Trustees.
