MASAC (Massachusetts Alcohol and Substance Abuse Center) is a Section 35 treatment center located in the beautiful Myles Standish State Forest in Plymouth, MA. This role is working with individuals with substance use disorders.
How you make a difference
The Patient Advocate serves as a liaison between the facility, patients and their families. The position advocates the needs of patients with behavioral health disorders admitted to the facility. In addition, this position represents the facility and serves as liaison for patient and staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Acts as a liaison between the facility, patients, and families, addressing concerns and maintaining effective communication channels.
* Conducts orientations for newly admitted patients to review their rights and responsibilities, ensuring understanding and compliance.
* Coordinates ADA accommodations for patients and facilitates discussions on de-escalation preferences with the treatment team.
* Organizes and leads Community Meetings, attends Leadership meetings to report patient concerns, and responds to family and patient inquiries regarding rights and treatment issues.
* Manages grievances, tracking and reviewing concerns raised by patients, providing recommendations to unit directors and administration, and collaborating with the Facility Administrator for escalated issues. Additionally, trains new employees on patient rights during orientation and may assist on units as needed.
Qualifications & Requirements
Education
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Bachelor's degree in business, risk management, or other related degree preferred.
Experience
* Minimum of (2) two years' experience in clinical risk management.
* Experience in health care settings, specifically with mental health inpatient settings
* Experience handling requests under the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) preferred
