Wellesley College is Hiring a Director of LGBTQ Programs and Services Near Wellesley, MA

The incumbent will serve as a point person to the College regarding LGBTQ issues and concerns. The director will support and mentor LGBTQ students and related student organizations and develop programs that are responsive to their needs. Finally, the Director will contribute to promote awareness, understanding, and appreciation of diversity and inclusion on campus.

Primary Position Responsibilities

  • Host programs to build community for LGBTQ students.
  • Manage the operation of the Penthouse including managing the budget, hiring, training and supervising work-study students. Collaborate with facilities and other departments to maintain the space.
  • Mentor LGBTQ students, both individuals and student organizations, on issues related to academic achievement, student development, leadership, conflict resolution, community building, and collaboration with other students and student groups on campus.
  • Train student leaders on important issues for supporting the LGBTQ community.
  • Respond to alumnae and parent’s questions, concerns and inquiries regarding LGBTQ issues and climate on campus.
  • Participate in orientation programs and yield events to welcome students
  • Serve as a consultant to departments on campus regarding LGBTQ issues and concerns
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports about the programs.
  • Work collaboratively with campus partners on college-wide issues of diversity and inclusion and provide educational opportunities.
  • Serve as a Dean’s designee on the Honor Code Council.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Institutional Research to create a thoughtful ongoing assessment and to share data and information with the student life division for improvement of services.
  • Partner with various Student Life departments to ensure that students are accessing health and wellness resources by making referrals when appropriate and ensuring that LGBTQ students are aware of resources that are available to them.
  • Collaborate with OICE, the Director of Non-Discrimination and others to assure that LGBTQ students are informed on issues of consent within a cultural context.
  • Review trends and issues for LGBTQ students across the country assessing relevance to the Wellesley College population.
  • Supervisor Responsibilities 
  • Supervises work-study students and interns.
  • Administrative Assistant (shared).

Education Required

  • Master’s degree required in a related field such as women’s and gender studies, higher education administration, counseling, psychology.

Experience Required

  • At 4-6 years of prior professional experience, preferably working in a similar center or program with college students or young adult LGBTQ populations.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of issues relevant to supporting the academic success of LGBTQ students
  • Strong commitment to student development and the educational purpose of student affairs work
  • Demonstrated program development and community collaboration experience.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment
  • Self-motivated, and well-organized.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills and written and oral communication skills Other Include any additional comments that are important in understanding this position’s role and impact on Wellesley College.
