SUMMARY
On-the-job opportunity for a Registered Pharmacy Intern, with intention to enter the Pharmacist career.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Follows safe work practices, including medication/patient safety, environmental safety and demonstrating universal precautions.
Assist the Pharmacists with data collection, not limited to but, including medications histories, medical histories, allergy history, vaccine status, and other medication monitoring data.
Prepares medications for unit dosing and ER pre-packs.
Prepares IV medications and chemotherapy.
Answers questions when necessary, including the use of clinical judgment provided supervising Pharmacist approves and takes responsibility for the information.
Completes projects, patient counseling, and staff in-services requested with appropriate stewardship from preceptor.
As part of a team effort, maintain pharmacy inventory. This includes ordering, expiring, rotating and restocking medications within the organization.
Prepares and checks for accuracy in both the daily IV fill and Cart fill.
Delivers medications to the nursing units and is available to answer questions from the nursing units, as appropriate.
Supports the policies and procedures of the organization and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Minnesota Pharmacy Intern Registration required, and hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret general correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to communicate in verbal and in written form.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with scientific calculations.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Evidence of high level functioning in team based care is preferred. Prioritization and time management skills essential.
