Welia Health is Hiring a Surgical Care Coordinator Near Mora, MN

Department: Surgery
Reports To: Surgery Manager
SUMMARY
In collaboration with the Surgical Service Manager or Charge nurse, coordinates surgery scheduling, patient education and customer service.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Responsible for answering and responding to patient phone calls manage team voicemail and email, and appropriately triage patient phone calls and forward them to the responsible party.
Performs computer scheduling of patient appointments for surgery, endoscopy, and outpatient procedure. Coordinate’s scheduling of clinic, lab, imaging, outpatient, and rehabilitation appointments
Responsible to support coordination of patient care between team members, other service line teams and/or other departments.
Accurately enter physician's orders into electronic medical record.
At direction of physician or other care providers, may complete standard (non-complex) patient forms such as FMLA, Short Term Disability, Workers Compensation, and other designated requests.
As directed, provide patients with information packet and/or documents in accordance with physician protocols.
Communicates with staff and departments regarding scheduling changes (i.e., add-ons, cancellations, delays). Maintains the surgery schedule. Acts as the central focus for communication in the patient care unit for the members of the healthcare team, patients, and visitors.
Prepares patient EMR and paper chart for upcoming scheduled surgical procedures including but not limited to: physician orders, pre-op History and Physical, Clinic note, and pertinent lab results.
Provides keyboarding, computer, clerical, and phone support for department.
Provides communication with patients regarding pre and postoperative instructions and registration.
Actively participates in training and orientation of new staff.
Acts as immediate back-up to other teams within own service line, or back on to other service line teams, as assigned.
Considers age-related factors when dealing with patients ranging from neonates, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics. Applies knowledge of age-related factors appropriately in accordance with professional standards and departmental policies & procedures.
Supports the policies and procedures of the organization and the standards of the Joint Commission as required for full accreditation.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required:
Highschool diploma and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
Proficient computer skills and familiarity with using a data base, spreadsheet, and work processing program.
Preferred:
Two-year degree within healthcare and recent experience working within a healthcare setting.
Experience scheduling surgical procedures.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak to individual patients and family members with clarity and in a manner which may be understood by the patient regarding patient care and preparation for medical procedures. Ability to communicate effectively regarding scheduling conflicts and requirements.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems; ability to deal with conflict in a diplomatic and understandable manner. Ability to reason and formulate resolutions under pressure, and to consider best manner to communicate resolutions tactfully. Ability to understand and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form, and to determine and apply the appropriate concrete or variable instruction. Ability to maintain concentration and follow-through on tasks while receiving interruptions or multiple tasks/instructions at one time.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and may include noise/sound from pediatric patients or other groups of patients, as well as nurses and medical staff performing routine daily duties in the vicinity.
