Job Description

We are looking for a General Ledger Accountant to join our Accounting/Finance team. He or she should be an organized and detail oriented individual who will work under the Controller. The ideal candidate will maintain financial reports, records, and general ledgers; prepares and analyze budgets; and general bookkeeping. He or she will be responsible for performing other assigned clerical and accounting duties in an effective and professional manner.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains files in an organized and accessible manner to include updating information, purging files on a regular basis and creating new filing systems as needed.
  • Provides administrative support for special projects to include research, compiling data and preparation of summary reports based on results.
  • Contacts department personnel, account representatives or other appropriate personnel regularly to resolve problems; keeps all parties informed and serves as a reference source; composes correspondence of technical nature pertaining to assignments.
  • Supports senior accountant in completing bookkeeping and accounting tasks.
  • Prepare statements, invoices and vouchers.
  • Determines if funds are available for expenditures or requisitions and posts to proper account; monitors fund/account balances and notifies appropriate personnel when limits are reached.
  • Perform posting of cash receipts, expenses, or other transactions to journals or ledgers and verifies accuracy.
  • Invoicing, vouchers, or other documents for corrections before entering into records. Sorts and files documents, and performs calculations.
  • Analyzes, investigates and corrects accounting entries as needed.
  • Manages the timely collection of receivables.
  • Report past due customers - to upper management.
  • Examines records of amounts due and makes sure invoices are paid according to terms and discounts taken.
  • Supplies regular or written reports.
  • Suggests improvements in processes to increase effectiveness of unit.
  • Oversees accounts payable recordkeeping. Ensures expense coding, voucher preparation, and check issuances are accomplished accurately and timely.
  • Verification of correct costs, quantities, and management approvals for vendor invoices.
  • Prepares or verifies and encodes journal entries or other transaction documents for accuracy.
  • Approves transaction documents within designated limits.
  • Prepares a variety of straightforward special and recurring accounting-related reports, summaries, financial statements, statistical reports and reconciliation.
  • Maintains special logs or records and balances and reconciles internal accounts.
  • Daily reconciliation of cash transactions (balance to zero).
  • Send to Controller (Monday).
  • Invoice customers daily - Print out, mail/email.
  • Check each invoice for cost per product, freight charges, & freight tracking numbers (backup support to Accounting Specialist I).
  • Process JEs.
  • Reconcile general ledger summaries.
  • Review payroll totals for accuracy (entered by Accounting Specialist I) before submitting to Controller.
  • Budget analysis.
