Weld County, CO is Hiring a Public Works - Service Worker III - Trucking/Materials Division Near Greeley, CO

Operate heavy construction equipment and/or tractor-trailer.

This position may be assigned to Trucking/Materials Division or any division as needed in Public Works.

$27.36 - $34.66 per hour plus benefits (see benefits tab on the job posting)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Field Work - 85%

  • Operate tractor-trailer, heavy and light construction, or road maintenance equipment.
  • Incumbent may have some lead worker responsibilities.
  • Advanced level of heavy equipment operations.
  • Must be able to perform work without direction or immediate supervision and follow detailed instruction to aid in the efficient and effective completion of the project or assigned task.
  • Must perform work in a courteous and safe manner.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate verbally through radio.
  • When contact with the public is required, the employee must maintain a courteous, helpful attitude.
  • Must be able to follow instructions from senior employees.

Administrative and Other Duties - 15%

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other County employees and the public.
  • Must be available to respond to and work extraordinary hours during emergency events.
  • Assist with snow and other inclement weather operations.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education

  • High School Diploma/GED (Preferred)

Experience Qualifications

  • 2 years operating tractor-trailer and/or heavy equipment operation.

Skills and Abilities

  • Must have a demonstrated proficiency in any two of the following pieces of equipment: tracked hydraulic excavator, snowplow, bulldozer, truck tractor with belly dump, front end loader, lowboy trailer, scraper, aggregate crushing plant, tandem axle truck, tanker, asphalt paver, backhoe (smaller than a John Deere 510), compaction equipment, skid steer, and motor grader.
  • Must have a basic familiarity with and experience working with a variety of road construction, maintenance and repair equipment and materials.
  • Must be able to read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
  • Must effectively present information in one-on-one situation with the public, subordinates, and supervisors.
  • Add and subtract two-digit numbers and multiply/divide with 10’s and 100’s. Perform these operations using units of money, weight, measurement, volume and distance.
  • Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions and make appropriate day to day decisions without supervisory guidance to perform assigned tasks.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Licenses and Certifications

  • CDL – Class A with tanker endorsement required.
  • Must have or be able to obtain MSHA (new miner or experienced miner) certification (On-the-job certification can be obtained.) within the first 12 month
  • Candidate must pass a background check prior to employment start date. Required
  • Candidate must pass a substance use screening prior to employment start date. Required
  • This position will participate in random substance use screening. Required
