Physical Therapy Assistant

I. JOB SUMMARY: *Encouraging New Graduates to Apply!*
Responsible for provision of physical therapy treatment and carrying out the plan of care as directed by the physical therapist and referral from the physician in any and all areas served. The treatment will be documented for communication with the resident’s M.D. and all members of the multidisciplinary care team in the form of treatment notes. Physical Therapist Assistants (PTA) will work weekends and holidays as needed, according to a posted schedule.

II. PRIMARY JOB DUTIES:

  • Monitors resident’s response to treatment and adjusts the treatment intervention as needed.
  • Prepares and maintains all documentation as required.
  • Discuss the resident’s progress with the attending physician, family, nursing and other allied health professionals as needed.
  • Assists in discharge planning and instructs resident and family in a home program and documents teaching.
  • Has adequate knowledge of MDS, PRI requirements
  • Performs quarterly, annual & significant change screens as dictated by the Physical Therapist.
  • Assists and orientates new employees in departmental forms and procedures.
  • Maintains work environment in a manor conductive to safety.
  • Performs other related duties as required
  • Selects appropriate environment/equipment
  • Positions & drapes patient for maximum comfort, safety and effectiveness.
  • Reacts to change in resident’s status in a given treatment session.
  • Administers chosen treatment according to established guidelines
  • Prepares individual care plans specific to each resident and modifies these as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Weekend and holiday rotation as needed

  • Maintains resident confidentiality
  • Treats residents in a manner which reflects dignity, respect and value for human life
  • Uses discretion when conversing with and in front of residents
  • Maintains balance between personal and professional relationships
  • Demonstrates the appropriate level of competency in performing treatment

IV. JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Education :

  • Associate Degree: Physical Therapist Assistant

License/Certification :

  • Current N.Y.S. Physical Therapist Assistant Certification

VI. PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, squat, kneel, reach, pull, push, grasp, and lift
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull, and carry items up to 50 pounds and assist with resident transfers and ambulation
  • Observes OSHA, and DOH, health and safety regulations
  • Uses universal precautions
  • Demonstrates safe resident care
  • Maintains working area in a manner conductive to safety
  • Uses good body mechanics for self and residents
  • Demonstrates knowledge of indications and contraindications in resident care
  • Administers treatment procedures within the physiological tolerance of the resident
  • Requests appropriate assistance when necessary
  • Offers assistance to staff and residents in a timely manner
