The Weather Channel en Español is the first 24/7 Spanish language weather network, which launched in May 2022. Catering to the millions of households where Spanish is spoken as the primary and secondary language, our mission is to inform and inspire important, under-served audiences with compelling and potentially life-saving weather storytelling.

The Weather Channel en Español features Spanish-speaking meteorologists and weather presenters. In addition to forecasting weather conditions in the United States, its territories, and Mexico from the studio, The Weather Channel en Español provides live reporting from the field. Our coverage will help viewers increase their safety and awareness of extreme weather events. Also, audiences will be able to track storms in the communities where they and their loved ones live, as well asfollow disaster recovery efforts.

Position Summary:

On-air weather anchors for The Weather Channel en Español have responsibility for presenting real-time and forecast weather information in Spanish to viewers across the United States from The Weather Channel Network studios in Atlanta, GA. In addition to on-air responsibilities, weather anchors may be required to use weather graphics systems to create weather graphics and/or weather hits to be used in their own presentations or those of other weather anchors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Pre-Show Preparation

• Briefs on the latest weather of the day, relevant weather stories, & daily content assets for storytelling (weather graphics, available video, interview options). 
• Actively participates in all pre-show meetings and organizes the show plan with a weather producer, and others as required.
• Contributes to the creation on on-air content using multiple graphic platforms including TruVu Max, Google Earth and Gibson Ridge. Preps all on-air presentation systems with needed show content. 
• Proofreads and coordinates script adjustments (as needed) for accuracy, readability, and personal voice. 
• Creates a well groomed, neat, professional appearance adhering to all Company guidelines for hairstyling, make-up, and attire. 
• Participate in the creation & planning of relevant social media content for cross platform efforts

On-Air Presentation

• Displays professionalism at all times through a credible and trustworthy, authoritative, confident, knowledgeable and polished performance using appropriate tone for each situation. 
• Provides fluency throughout Spanish language presentation. Provides clear articulation, enunciation, and pronunciation. 
• Delivers an engaging and accurate weather presentation that displays energy, passion, enthusiasm, interest, and caring/empathy with appropriate intensity. 
• Maintains a well groomed, neat, professional appearance adhering to all Company guidelines for hairstyling, make-up, and attire. 
• Communicates easy-to-follow storytelling with seamless flow and clear, understandable elements that support the story. Understands and relates to the audience and accurately explains the weather using easy-to-understand terms. 
• Provides authoritative communication and correct pronunciation of geography on a national and international scale. 

Education, Experience, Certification Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience; Meteorology or Atmospheric Science degree (or equivalent) preferred.
• Must have fluency and experience presenting the weather in Spanish. 
• Must have experience presenting the weather live and on tape, preferably using WSI TruVu Max systems. 
• Fluent in speaking and writing both Spanish and English language. Must be willing to work various shifts and extended hours based on significant weather events, including weekends as needed. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Experience covering severe weather (in all seasons). 
• Experience creating weather graphics preferred, especially with WSI TruVu Max. 
• Competency operating broadcast meteorology equipment; experience using interactive technology preferred. 
• Track record of success working both individually and in an interdisciplinary team environment. 
• Able to work effectively in a fast paced, high pressure environment without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail. 
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
