Weather Group Television LLC is Hiring a Digital Associate Producer - FREELANCE OPPORTUNITY Near Atlanta, GA

Position Summary 

The Digital Associate Producer is responsible for collaborating across the editorial team to create content for Local Now. The Digital Associate Producer for Local Now leverages the organization's broad range of content sources and advanced video editing capabilities to produce news that matters, at scale. 

 The Digital AP is the eyes and ears for what is going on nationally and locally that matters most to our audiences. And the Digital AP uses that insight to produce packages for distribution across Local Now's wide range of audience touch points. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Research top stories daily from multiple content partners to identify and propose content to be published to Local Now. Collaborate with other Local Now producers on the selection, editing, publishing and distribution of live and on-demand video content. Uses news judgment to determine story play; chooses stories and packages to be displayed on various digital platforms; assists in planning and execution of digital content for daily stories and long-term coverage. 
  • Helps coordinate with shows, desks, blogs and the Digital News team. 
  • Identifies, edits and posts photos. Determines need for rights clearances and permissions for acquired material. Acquires and files permissions and clearances. 
  • Works with appropriate staff to help create multimedia content, including photo galleries. 
  • Locates appropriate links and other material to enhance web stories and posts. 
  • Utilize Adobe Premier Pro and other tools to cut and edit video content for Local Now. 
  • Write and edit text to be used on-screen and for headlines and captions. 
  • Tag video content with editorially relevant metadata. 
  • Partner with radio, host, and meteorology teams as needed to get audio and on-camera talent for produced videos. Maintains database of program content for archival use. 

Education, Experience, Certification Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related subject preferred 
  • 2 years newsroom experience 
  • Experience managing branded social media accounts, including Facebook and Twitter 
  • Experience maintaining high journalistic ethics and standards under deadline pressure, including standards of objectivity, balance and fairness 
  • Experience with intellectual property issues involved in publications generally and Web publications in particular Experience using newsroom management systems and content management systems 
     

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to enterprise story ideas and work on segments from conception to completion 
  • Ability to work as a self-starter with minimum supervision 
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail Ability to work quickly and efficiently under deadline pressure 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively coordinate multiple tasks and able to react to spontaneous changes in priorities. 
  • Demonstrated skills in news writing, editing and headline writing 
  • Excellent collaborative skills and ability to work well on a teams 
  • Excellent video editing skills (e.g. Adobe Premier Pro) 
  • Familiarity with specialty topics such as national, international, science or business news 
  • Knowledge of Associated Press stylebook and excellent knowledge of grammar. 
  • Live control room experience preferred 
  • Solid, independent news judgment
  • Strong knowledge of digital video, television production techniques and language 
  • Strong written/verbal communication skills 
  • Willingness to learn skills necessary to work on digital platforms, ability to adapt to changes in equipment, software and workflow
