Job Summary

This position is directly involved in high profile and key WEC initiatives and will interface across all areas within WEC and all levels including Senior Management. This Strategist position provides an excellent opportunity for personal growth and development as you will learn all aspects of the utility industry (regulatory, legal, finance, Bulk Electric System, and electric markets).

The Strategist is responsible for supporting the creation and implementation of operational strategies that will minimize the net cost of serving WEC Energy Group’s customers. Strategies will involve the regional energy markets (MISO, ERCOT, PJM and SPP), market and tariff design, regulatory filings including rate design concepts, and transmission impacts on our generating assets and customers. This also includes development and modification of technology, data and processes to efficiently manage operational strategies.

This position requires unescorted access to certain critical cyber assets which would require applicants to satisfy all company and NERC Critical Infrastructure Protection Standard 004 security requirements, which includes a background investigation.

Job Responsibilities

• Analyze data, project future conditions in support of asset optimization and regulatory filings. Continuously evaluate the results of these strategies and procedures and propose adjustments as needed
• Work closely with other Strategists, energy market Power Traders and Gas Supply to ensure proper implementation and feedback/analysis of market strategies
• Remain current on the MISO and other applicable tariffs (both existing and proposed changes) and identify value-creating strategies within the energy market framework
• Support analysis, creation and implementation of operational strategies and initiatives in the major areas below for WEC:
  • Non-regulated asset acquisition in various markets (PJM, SPP, ERCOT, MISO etc.)
  • Asset development for new regulated assets and large customer additions
  • Emergent technology
  • Emergent market tariffs and regulation
  • Asset optimization

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Business or Engineering
• 3-7 years of experience in the energy or utility industry
• Knowledge of the regional transmission system, LMP markets, power flow simulation, and/or regional generation resources is required
• Knowledge of gas supply and delivery system processes
• High proficiency with analytical software (e.g. Excel, databases, web-based applications)
• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication and negotiating skills
• Attention to detail, strong problem solving, planning, organizational, and analytical skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to effective communicate
