Waypoint Services for Women Children and Families is Hiring a School Age Director Near Rapids, IA

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Managing Director of Child Care, the School Age Director will maintain a high quality, organized program. The School Age Director keeps the program running smoothly, as well as supervising School Age child care staff. 

TIME COMMITMENT

40 hours per week; times vary. Programming runs 6:30am – 6pm, Monday through Friday.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises the general operations of the program, including budget development and monitoring
  • Maintains an in-depth understanding of the Department of Human Services child care licensing standards and Fire Department regulations. Ensures implementation of these regulations at all sites
  • Communicates and interacts with parents of the school age child care program participants
  • Substitute teaches at sites when necessary
  • Tracks enrollment and enrolls new children as directed
  • Ensures provision of supplies for the school age child care teaching staff and children enrolled in the program as the budget allows
  • Communicates with and supports all school age child care teaching staff, through memos, site visits, department meetings, training programs. Helps keep staff informed of program changes and other Waypoint activities
  • Plans and facilitates staff meetings, held twice a month
  • Assists in problem solving with staff on program issues
  • Helps ensure the use of quality, age-appropriate curriculum at all sites
  • Completes program statistics on a monthly basis
  • Conducts evaluations of CACFP guidelines at all sites quarterly
  • Visits sites and evaluates programs. Works with staff on needed program improvements
  • Interviews, hires, and trains new staff. Assists in the planning and development of a staff training program
  • Completes enrollment and orientation of new families in the program
  • Completes eight hours of professional growth annually, four of which must be in a sponsored group setting (ten contact hours during the first year, all of which must be in a sponsored group setting)
  • Completes and approves staff member time cards
  • Maintains the required staff/child ratios at all times
  • Is able to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

§ Complies with all Waypoint policies and Waypoint letter of employment

§ Maintains client and program confidentiality as defined in the Waypoint Confidentiality Policy

§ Demonstrates a positive attitude and professional manner, both in appearance and actions in carrying out job responsibilities

§ Follows Waypoint Crisis Communication Plans

§ Attends and participates in Waypoint departmental, interdepartmental, and staff meetings as directed

§ Maintains scheduled work hours and notifies your immediate supervisor personally of absences

§ Supports Waypoint events

§ Promotes Waypoint team concept by being courteous and helpful to other employees and clients

§ Accurately maintains necessary forms and records and submits in a timely manner, especially Accident/Incident Report Forms

§ Is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the total work environment

§ Completes time cards and/or employment records accurately and submits on time to supervisor

§ Is able to work flexible hours

§ Works with supervisor to develop a professional growth plan

§ Attends in-service trainings and works to increase skills in field

§ Performs all other duties as assigned by Waypoint

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

§ Two or four year degree in early childhood, childhood development, or elementary education, and/or equivalent experience working with children in a child care facility and child development related training to meet DHS requirements

§ Minimum of one year of administrative experience, or one college course in business administration, or 12 contact hours in administrative-related training

§ Minimum of one year teaching experience in a licensed child care center

§ Demonstrate excellent leadership, organization, oral, and written communication skills

§ Evidence of enough security and judgment to handle crisis situations

§ Valid First Aid and CPR certificates within the first six months of employment. First Aid must be repeated every three years thereafter. CPR must be repeated every two years thereafter

§ Mandatory Child Abuse Reporter Training within the first six months of employment, then maintain current certification

§ One hour of universal precautions and infectious disease control training within first six months of employment

§ Pre-employment physical examination, including testing for communicable diseases, taken within six months prior to beginning employment by a licensed physician and repeated at least every three years thereafter

§ Receive a negative report on the Waypoint/DHS Non-Law Enforcement Records Check

§ If required to drive a Waypoint vehicle, must have valid driver’s license and be insurable to meet the requirements of Waypoint insurance provider. If required to transport clients, must have a valid chauffeurs license
