Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Academic Advisor I/II (A99181) at its Detroit campus location.

Communicateeffectively and accurately academic and non-academic requirements, policies,procedure within the University and the Mike Ilitch School of Business.
Maintaincontinuous advising relationships with students; effectively engage students inbroad discussion from initial college preparedness through career planning;monitor and communicate using university systems, social media, small group,and face-to-face sessions, as appropriate.
Coordinateretention efforts within the Mike Ilitch School of Business.
Work withsupervisors and in consultation with experience advisors, work with minimalsupervision.
Demonstrateability to act as liaison with other units; participate in meetings and work asa member of a team.
Adviseprospective and current undergraduate and post Bachelor students within theMike Ilitch School of Business; provide a comprehensive suite of advisingservices; advise potential and current students on admission, graduation, andcertification.
Conductinformation sessions and provide academic advising on main campus and atextension centers.
Assist inthe School’s recruiting efforts, represent department at regional high schooland community college programs and at college recruiting events; coordinatespecial programs.
Prepareundergraduate, and post-bachelor work plans.
Verifyrequirements for certification, graduation.
Must beavailable to work evenings and weekend hours as requested.
Must haveown transportation.
Continuouslydevelop knowledge of best practices, policies, procedures, technological tools,etc.
Facilitateorientation sessions and/or orientation courses for FTIACs, transfers, andother student populations.
Bachelor’sDegree (Advisor 1) in education, counseling or related field or minimum ofmaster’s degree in education, counseling or related field (Advisor II).
Advisingexperience at a university or community college level working with a diversestudent body. Minimum of 3 years’ experience as an academic advisor for AdvisorII
Ability toquickly assimilate extensive knowledge of a complex nature.
Ability torelate well and establish rapport with students, other staff, parents, andcommunity.
Previousexperience in higher education setting (desired).
Timemanagement, organization, communication- written and oral, interpersonal,computer skills, Banner skill (desired), ability to work effectively in a teamsetting, creativity.
Workingknowledge of social media (desired).
Knowledgeof best practices in academic advising.
Experiencewith diverse student populations: ethnic, gender, age, economic level, firstgeneration, etc.
Ability towork effective with students of varying levels of academic preparedness.
