Beginning Teacher Coordinator

TITLE : Beginning Teacher Coordinator

QUALIFICATIONS : Bachelor’s degree in education with valid teaching certificate in North Carolina.

REPORTS TO : Director of Human Resources

JOB GOAL : The Beginning Teacher Coordinator works under general supervision and is responsible for instructional functions including, but not limited to : The Beginning Teacher Program, professional development for BT’s, Residency Program, National Board Certification support, oversight of the Mentor Program, being involved in and keeping abreast of the North Carolina Standard Courses of Study instructional initiatives as they apply to new teachers, and other coordinating duties as assigned by the Director of Human Resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Implements effective coaching rounds, lesson demonstrations, and observations for Beginning Teachers at the school level.
  • Conducts research and applies best instructional strategies.
  • Analyzes retention, recruitment, assessment, and survey data.
  • Assists with maintaining the systems and processes of NCEES (North Carolina Educational Evaluation System).
  • Plans, develops, and coordinates New Teacher Orientation, training in school system policies and procedures for beginning teacher development as assigned.
  • Plans and collaborates with school system principals and site-based mentors to provide support for beginning teachers at school sites.
  • Delivers system-wide orientation, training, mentoring, and support programs for beginning teachers.
  • Assists the district Professional Development Committee with developing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning for beginning teachers (working with T & L).
  • Assists in the evaluation of the district and school-level professional development for impact on increased teacher effectiveness and improved academic achievement.
  • Encourages and supports the development and implementation of innovative, effective instructional programs based on scientifically researched based initiatives to increase achievement for all students.
  • Assists in monitoring the teacher evaluation system for Beginning Teacher Support compliance.
  • Demonstrates awareness of school / community needs and supports activities to meet those needs.
  • Consults and works with principals and supervisors to ensure state and local requirements are met.
  • Supports alternatively license beginning teachers in obtaining a continuing license.
  • Assists in the onboarding of beginning teachers and newly hired staff.
  • Verifies and provides information necessary satisfy local and state reporting requirements.
  • Remains current in state and federal program guidelines, procedures, rules, and laws.
  • Improves leadership skills through self-initiated professional activities.
  • Develops, updates, and implements the Beginning Teachers Support Handbook required by state policy.
  • Update the continuing education units (CEUs) for current employees to assist with teacher retention.
  • Carries out other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent and Director of Human Resources.

Terms of Employment : Twelve-month employment / FLSA Exempt

Starting Salary and / or Grade : Salary based on state salary scale

Evaluation : Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board,

local and state policy on evaluation of teachers.
