DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES

Responsibilities of the Project Manager include:

  • Maintain a work plan, schedule, and budget for projects in your portfolio while growing momentum, support and impact through project steering committees.
  • Lead and support special projects as directed.
  • Provide technical assistance to County departments and to local communities to begin or strengthen sustainability programs.
  • Identify opportunities for funding or projects that align with the mission and goals of the County and the Sustainability & Innovation Division.
  • Support grant application processes, including researching grants, working with internal and external partners to meet proposal deadlines, developing budgets and completing applications.

ELIGIBLE PERSONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Business Administration, Urban or Regional Planning, Economics, Public Administration, Community Development, Environmental Science Studies, General Studies, or a closely related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the job's essential duties may also be considered.

Experience Required: Three (3) years of full-time professional work experience in urban planning, strategic planning, environmental justice, sustainability, management consulting, project management, process improvement or a closely related area. Experience in a public agency is preferred.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Pay Rate and Fringe Benefits: Appointments will usually be made at the minimum rate with annual increases where applicable. Payment is on a bi-weekly basis. Employees receive liberal fringe benefits, which include vacation pay, sick leave pay, health care insurance, optical, dental, long term disability, life insurance and a retirement plan.

How to Apply: Applicants must complete application form (P/HR-210), which may be obtained at the office of the Department of Personnel/Human Resources. The application will be used for determining eligibility for admission to the examination and as a basis for rating experience and training.

Investigation and Probationary Period: An investigation of character and past employment will be conducted. Appointees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period before the appointment will be considered permanent, in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreements.

Veteran's Preference: Honorably discharged war veterans who receive passing grades on examinations will have ten (10) points added to their final earned examination scores and those who have a service connected disability will have five (5) points added to their score, for a possible total of fifteen (15) additional points. Requests for and proof of eligibility must be submitted at the time of the examination.
