WPS is a high-achieving west-suburban district of 2,800 students, with one preschool, three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school.   • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (C.O.R.I.), Sexual Offender Record Check (S.O.R.I.), and fingerprints.

The Children’s Way, Wayland’s Integrated Preschool Program, is seeking a Director who is responsible for leading a developmentally appropriate, and inclusive, early childhood program which reflects the philosophy and vision of the Wayland Public Schools. The Director will ensure that the service delivery meets the unique social, emotional and learning needs of all students. The TCW Director works closely and cooperatively with the Director of Student Servcies as well as building principals, teachers, and parents.

Primary Responsibilities:

STAFF SUPERVISION AND EVALUATION

  • Interview and hire all staff subject to the approval of the Superintendent
  • Supervise and evaluate all staff annually or as required by the Wayland Public Schools
  • Provide classroom coverage when necessary
  • Attend periodic meetings with other Special Education Team Leaders

COMMUNICATION AND COORDINATION

  • Develop open communication systems between all staff and parents of The Children’s Way
  • Schedule staff and substitutes
  • Liaise with Early Intervention and area preschools for screenings and transition to public school
  • Plan, coordinate, and serve as Team Chair at special education Team meetings
  • Oversee and assure that the procedural aspects of the implementation of state and federal special education laws are fulfilled by all members of the Special Education Staff
  • Manage the consent and evaluation process for preschool students up to and including chairing IEP meetings and the development of the IEP document
  • Work with the Parent Organization Board to facilitate parent involvement and attending their monthly meetings
  • Maintain awareness of Massachusetts DEEC regulations and initiatives
  • Communicate with the Wayland Public Schools’ Facilities Manager regarding immediate needs and long-term maintenance to ensure a safe and clean school environment.

CURRICULUM AND STAFF DEVELOPMENT

  • Oversee and facilitate the planning of developmentally appropriate, child-centered curriculum and environments that address the individual needs and learning styles of students and reflect NAEYC accreditation criteria
  • Work with Director of Special Education and Director of Teaching and Learning to develop long range plans for curriculum evaluation and revision
  • Plan, organize, and implement team building and professional development opportunities for staff to assure the quality of educational programming and service delivery at the Children’s Way

BUDGET AND PURCHASING

  • Coordinate, manage and maintain full enrollment
  • Work with the Business Office to establish billing procedures and collection of tuition
  • Oversee procurement and purchasing of all materials and supplies
  • Communicating with Wayland Public Schools’ Director of Finance and Operations regarding accounts payable 
  • Develop program related budget requests with teachers
  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Special Education and the Director of Finance and Operations to determine priorities for program purchases

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree, preferably in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or in the field of Special Education
  • Minimum 3-5 years of early childhood classroom and/or special education teaching experience;
  • Valid DESE license for Elementary PreK-2; 1-6, or Special Education Moderate Disabilities PreK-8;
  • License as Supervisor/Director or Principal/Assistant Principal or eligible for certification;
  • Administrative experience preferred, including supervisory;
  • Evidence of outstanding organizational and time management skills;
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills;
  • Experience with diverse populations and commitment to Wayland’s goals of diversity, inclusion, and anti-racism;
  • Personal and professional characteristics necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position;
  • Knowledge of special education regulations
  • Knowledge of early childhood development
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required

Terms of Employment:

  • Two hundred and fifteen (215) work days per year;
  • Salary and benefits commensurate with experience and negotiated with the administration of the Wayland Public Schools;
  • Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Director of Student Services and Superintendent of Schools in accordance with School Committee policy and Massachusetts statutes.
