Description: Counselor (RC/DC) serves as direct support staff for individuals with Developmental Disabilities within either the Day Program or Residential Program Setting. The counselor’s primary responsibility is to create and maintain an environment where assigned individuals are safe in compliance with Developmental Disabilities Administration guidelines and expectations. This is achieved through nurturing and caring for the individual with respect to their unique needs and desires. The Counselor should be in constant communication with their direct supervisor and agency Delegating Nurse (if applicable) to ensure all clients are receiving proper medical care to ensure the health of each client. Counselors will assist individuals to participate in the community by accompanying individuals to medical appointments and activities. Counselors are required to document all events on the appropriate agency forms.

Education and/or experience:
o High School Diploma or equivalent
o Previous experience preferred.
o Competent computer skills including MS Office or equivalent
o Internet skills including use of e-mails, group messaging and data collection
o Numeric and literacy skills
o CPR/First Aid training

General Tasks and Responsibilities:
o Complete all required documentation with respect to individuals.
o Attend core training and orientation for employees.
o Prepare meals and monitor individuals in assigned facilities.
o Adhere to agency policies and procedures in accordance with state regulations and complete given tasks.
o Support participation in the community via: grocery shopping and storage, transportation to and from appointments, and individual supervision.
o Attend staff meetings.
o Assist in the safe evacuation of all persons during an emergency or disaster situation.
o Keep residents informed of all policies and procedures and ensure compliance with these guidelines.
o Organize resident activities that promote housing stability.
o Assist with intake and assessment of prospective program participants, if required.
o Communicate and coordinate with administrative members.
o Assist with agency event planning and implementation.
