Who We Are:
Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 – 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

What We Need: The Bilingual Manager of Family Support Services is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the goals and objectives of the EL/Bilingual Parent Education Program. The Bilingual Manager of Family Support Services will report to the Director of English Learners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: All Functions are under the direction of the EL Director
Provides assigned schools with technical assistance relating to EL parent education and involvement activities; orients EL parents to their role in the educational process through presentations, written materials and parents meetings.
Identifies and provides information about community based resources related to parenting;
Confers with the Director and school personnel regarding families, EL parent needs, referral system and social service resources.
Assists in planning a referral system for families/EL parents regarding available community services and social services; makes referrals to outside agencies and follows up on referrals; assist families in coordinating with medical/health providers.
Operates various computer software applications programs
Keep abreast of current trends in social services and health care issues.
Monitor student attendance and report attendance interventions
Work to increase effective, meaningful and productive communication between EL parents and school staff.
Assist in developing and identifying strategies for providing ongoing support to families of identified students in need of specialized services or additional assistance.
Assists EL parents and school staff with efforts to improve student attendance.
Work cooperatively with the department Director, EL parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine appropriate actions to affect solutions to students on school related issues..
All actions must be in concert with the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the strategic plan of the Waukegan Public Schools.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
The Illinois educational system and relevant resources.
Cultural background needs and challenges of families served by the District.
Familiarity with goals and objectives of Bilingual Education and the District Bilingual Program.
District procedures, requirements and activities.
Effective parenting skills.
Health and social services related public and private agencies.
Child Care, health and development principles
Excellent translation skills both written and oral in Spanish and English.

Bachelor’s Degree Required
