    Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 17,000 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. The District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 – 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    In an effort to provide direct, immediate services to non-English speaking parents, students and community members the Language Liaison will be responsible for providing oral interpretation and written translation in language identified.
    Responsibilities:
    • Meet, place and respond to calls from parents and other non-English speaking individuals;
    • Assist office workers with the processing of registration and parental permission forms for the enrollment of non-English speaking students and/or parents and guardians;
    • Communicate effectively orally and in writing in language identified;
    • Participate in IEP reviews, 504 meetings, English Language Learner conferences based upon the language needs of the student and parents/guardians;
    • Provide written translation of IEP forms, Section 504 plan, school letters, individual parent communication, and other documents as identified by the school and district;
    • Respond to inquiries or concerns in a timely manner;
    • Demonstrate initiative for recognizing and resolving issues, concerns, or problems;
    • Use appropriate interpersonal styles and methods to guide individuals and groups toward task accomplishment;
    • Assist school personnel in their efforts to make referrals to community agencies;
    • Assist school personnel in obtaining specific information;
    • Assist in implementing collaborative activities with district/school staff;
    • Attends school, district or community meetings as needed to provide interpretation services;
    • Assists with end of year English Language Learners program language assessment conferences;
    • Provide interpretation and translation in regards to student discipline conferences, including hearing and appeals;
    • Disseminates pertinent information to appropriate parties;
    • Provide language assistance to students in academic and social settings;
    • Potential to serve on committees, councils, and/or task forces;
    • Represent the District to outside shareholders in a professional and supportive manner;
    • Complete required reports and maintain all required records;
    • Keep a record of appointments, mileage and home visits as assigned;
    • Perform other duties as assigned.
