    Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 serves nearly 15,500 students in preschool through grade 12 and is located halfway between Chicago, Illinois and Milwaukee, Wisconsin on the shores of Lake Michigan. Our District has one early learning center, 15 elementary schools, five middle schools and a high school program divided between two 9 – 12th grade campuses. The District encompasses portions of Waukegan, Beach Park and Park City.

    The Assistant Director of Teaching & Learning (PreK-12) will be directly responsible to the Director of Teaching & Learning (PreK-12).
    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
    1. Lead the PreK-5th administrative and teaching staff in managing the requirements and challenges of ongoing change and instructional improvements for all students in general, bilingual and special education.
    2. Support principals in implementing district programs, initiatives, and requirements in each building.
    3. Work in collaboration with district leadership to plan and lead administrative leadership meetings, principals’ leadership meetings related to curriculum/instruction/assessment, and teacher leaders meetings.
    4. Plan for and conduct regular meetings with school-level instructional coaches.
    5. Plan, direct and/or oversee all curriculum functions related to mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, SEL, and MTSS.
    6. Assist in the development and maintenance of the annual budget for all instructional programs.
    7. Plan and direct procedures related to the acquisition of materials and equipment for all instructional programs.
    8. Plan and direct instructional program evaluations.
    9. Recommend and implement curriculum improvements.
    10. Assist and/or coordinate district procedures for communicating student learning (report cards, progress reports, and cumulative records).
    11. Assure that policies, rules, regulations, and contractual requirements are followed in areas of designated responsibility.
    12. Assure district compliance with state mandates related to teaching and learning. Monitor all aspects of the district and state level standardized testing program.
    13. Conduct presentations to the Board of Education as directed by the Director of Teaching & Learning of relevance to teaching and learning.
    14. Assist staff in interpreting data and in using data to inform decisions.
    15. Guide the development, implementation, and evaluation of professional development and training programs.
    16. Work in collaboration with district administrators for the purpose of recruiting highly qualified teachers and administrators.
    17. Performs other job related duties as may be assigned by the Director of Teaching & Learning.

    Qualifications:
    1. Must hold Illinois Professional Educators License with Administrative Endorsement
    2. A required minimum of five (3) years of recent successful experience as a school leader (Assistant Principal/Principal). Additional district-level administrative experience a plus
    3. Completion of requirements for a Master’s degree in Teaching & Learning, Curriculum & Instruction, or Education Administration & Supervision; Doctorate degree preferred.
    4. Current Illinois certification to evaluate Teachers, Administrators, and Principals.
    5. Commitment to the belief that all children, regardless of circumstances, can achieve at high levels;
    6. Demonstrated ability to multitask effectively and prioritize strategically; 7. Openness to feedback and willingness to take personal responsibility; 8. Passion to embrace the goals of raising achievement for all students and closing achievement gaps;
    9. Demonstrated ability to collect, synthesize, and interpret data from multiple sources and to facilitate data-driven decision-making and problem-solving;
    10. Excellent interpersonal communication, and listening skills
    11. Ability to successfully work in a collaborative environment with administrators, teachers, parents, and outside agencies;
    12. Commitment to maintaining a high level of competence in the field of education and remaining current in issues related to areas of responsibility;
    13. High level of personal integrity and a strong work ethic;
    14. Thorough knowledge of and ability to research Federal, State, and District laws, policies, and procedures
    15. Ability to supervise and work effectively with departmental personnel
    Work Environment: The Assistant Director of Teaching & Learning (PreK-12) will oversee, supervise, and evaluate all PreK-5th Academic Coordinators, programs and materials.
