Summary:

The Computer/Systems Technician supports technology use by staff, students, and others, across all of the district's buildings. This includes recording and prioritizing tickets within the help desk system, diagnosing problems, and working with other dept. staff to troubleshoot and resolve issues in a timely manner.

This job requires initiative, organizational problem-solving skills, and the ability to acquire knowledge of program operations, policies, and procedures. Incumbents are expected to work both independently and as a team, to carry out the work and procedures of the Information Technology Dept.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support in person as well as via phone, email, and helpdesk.
  • Install, maintain, and support computer hardware, software, and peripherals district-wide.
  • Replace computer, laptop, Chromebook, and printer components (screens, keyboards, batteries, network cards, etc...) as needed.
  • Create help desk tickets on behalf of end-users and assist users with locating appropriate support resources.
  • Triage, resolve, escalate, and track help desk requests to ensure timely responses.
  • Collaborate with IT and EdTech staff to resolve issues and produce documentation.
  • Keep detailed records of all work performed.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records of all computing assets.
  • Process shipments/deliveries as they're received (unbox, inventory, provision).
  • Monitor consumables supply (toner, projector lamps, etc) across the district to ensure an adequate stock.
  • Assist with e-waste and recycling collections district-wide.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • A strong working knowledge of computer systems, including Windows, Mac, and ChromeOS
  • Experience installing and maintaining operating systems, applications, peripherals and associated software.
  • Experience replacing components (keyboard, display, etc…) in laptops, Chromebooks and iOS devices.
  • Familiarity with automation, scripting, database, and management/deployment processes and toolsets.
  • Effective problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues in a timely manner
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • An openness to learning and implementing new technologies.

Qualification Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience:

  • An Associate's degree in computer science or related field, relevant certifications, or any combination of education and experience that the Director of Information Technology and Superintendent deem acceptable.
  • Valid Massachusetts Drivers License and Personal transportation for travel between district buildings.
  • : At least 2 years of experience working in a high-volume help desk environment.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States - Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.
  • All prospective employees must be able to clear the required background checks.

Physical Demands:

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Moderate to strenuous physical effort is required to perform duties. The employee is frequently required to use hands to assemble and dismantle devices, operate equipment, walk, stand, speak and hear, reach with hands and arms, balance, crouch, crawl, stoop, and climb. Stamina is required to work in confined spaces and lift or move items weighing up to 60, and sometimes more than 100, pounds. Physical ability is required to use some equipment, power and hand tools. Vision requirements include the ability to read and analyze documents, use a computer, and operate a motor vehicle. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment.

Sensory Requirements:

Most tasks require visual perception and the ability to distinguish color. The employee must be able to input information into a computer and as well as read material from a computer monitor as well as printed matter with or without visual aids. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with other staff members in order to exchange accurate information.

Work Environment:

The noise level in this environment is quiet to loud depending on the activity and the particular part of the day and location. The employee interacts with other staff members and occasionally must meet multiple demands from several people.

Work is typically performed indoors; frequently required to work in proximity to high voltage power sources, and work in confined spaces.

The employee must have personal transportation and be able to drive to various buildings within the district throughout the day.

Errors in decisions could result in injury to others, delay or loss of service, damage to buildings or equipment, monetary loss, and legal repercussions.
