Position: Elementary Teacher – English Language Development Specialist (FTE 1.0)
Minimum Qualifications:
Highly qualified teacher with valid Michigan teaching certificate
NS endorsement
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with students, parents, and staff
Strong communication, technology, and organizational skills
Competency in student management and supervision
Competency in ESL/ELD strategies
Flexibility and ability to teach in either a traditional or online format
Essential Functions:
Identify, serve, and monitor all ELs based on WIDA Screener and WIDA ACCESS scores
Provide English Language Development instruction to ELs on caseload
Coordinate services provided by ESL Paraprofessionals
Utilize the WIDA English Language Development Standards Framework to plan instruction
Determine the best service model for each student (push in/pull out) based on students’ language proficiency and individual needs while maintaining ELs access to specials, recess, and core content instruction
Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure ELs receive content instruction while learning English
Meet with staff to determine the academic needs of individual students
Adjust English Language Development services as student needs change
Provide complete report of delivery of services to the ESL Consultant and building principals four times per year at marking period
Reports To: Building Principal/Director of K-8 Services
Workday/Week: Monday – Friday Starting Date: August 22, 2024 Compensation: Per WEA Master Agreement
